The Varsity is literally a block away from my apartment. Yet despite its proximity to me, I have only eaten there 3 times in the 2 years that I have lived here. Simply put, with the prices that they charge, if this place wasn't a landmark, it would be out of business. That's not to say that the food here totally sucks. The chilli cheeseburger is satisfying in a super greasy, "I dont give an eff what this is going to do to my body when I wake up from my fat induced food coma." The fact that the first time I came here was with my 400 lb RA speaks volume to the clientele who regularly come to the varsity. As for the food, in my opinion, if your going to come here, you might as well say EFF YOU to your body and get the double chili cheeseburger and either a heavy dog or a chili cheese slaw dog. If your going to kill your body and stomach, you might as well do do it with a nuke. The double chilli cheeseburger is actually pretty good, the chili isn't super salty, though it could definitely have more of texture and flavor. It is VERY VERY messy. The Chili Slaw Dog was actually pretty unique. The cool and soothing slaw provides a very nice contrast to the hot and spicy chili. The hotdog itself isn't anything special. Neither is the bun (though the Varsity custom orders their buns). When at the varsity, you should also get the Frosted Orange drink to help wash down that hotdog and cheeseburger which you just had. Its basically an orange creme milkshake. Not anything special if you have a 7-11 nearby. All in all, the food isn't bad enough to warrant a 1. In fact, if the prices they charged were a bit cheaper by like 50 cents (because you'll definitely have to eat more than just 1 burger or hotdog to get full), I might consider raising it another star. Oh and the chili cheese fries aren't bad either. Oh and if your wondering, its famous because its the oldest and supposedly first drive in (like sonic's) in America. Oh, and you get to watch big screen TV while your eating if you eat indoors.

I'd been here before and I liked it better the first time around. I don't know exactly why, but perhaps it was the particular company I had with me at the time or the fact that the latest time I visited VM I had a not-so-nice experience. My girlfriend and I were seated in the dining room area right after waiting at the bar for a few minutes; all good up until this point. We were seated by the entrance of the blue dining section, under the below freezing vent right up above us. No kidding about this - it was F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G; I had to put the cloth napkin on my legs and fortunately I had a leather coat with me and I put it on; my friend, the poor thing, was wearing a sleeveless dress and she got so cold that she started getting congested. We asked the waiter once to see if he could manage to pass along our request to the manager and he agreed. After about 10 minutes, we asked for a second time because nothing had changed and the temperate was still Antarctic-style. He said he had asked the manager. So there we were freezing our buns off, not enjoying our conversation, uncomfortable, and teetering; another 10 to 15 minutes passed by, we asked for a third time about the vent and we suggested to the waiter to move us to another table. At this point, we had already received our ordered and within three minutes, I swear this is not an exaggeration, my girlfriend's fish tacos and my soup were cold. I'M DEAD SERIOUS. It was that freaking freezing that our food was ready to be put inside the oven again. We asked for the check and left. Maybe these folks thought we were just a pain in the butt and decided to ignore our genuine requests to set the temperature to more normal setting. I guess we couldn't even feel the heat of being upset because it was so damn cold that our thoughts started to freeze. No worried, once we stepped outside, we started unthawing.

The best place to dance in Atlanta... on SATURDAY nights. Yeah Yeah once you get past the strippers and the shear filth this place oozes with, you can really enjoy dancing here. The music is awesome. I've been frequenting this place for about 6 years... less and less each year unfortunately but I still enjoy sweating my arse off dancing, drinking beer in a can and listening to some great 80's tunes. It's a trip and one everyone should try at least once or twice ... a year. ;-)
