Let me start by saying my gringo self loves Latin clubs. I love Latin food, Latin dancing (though I don't know what I'm doing half the time, it's still fun to bob along, and hey, if people are talking about me, I can be in blissful oblivion since I don't speak Spanish...lol). And Loca Luna is my all-time favorite Latin club of the ones I've been to. It's awesome that it's free, there's a wide selection of tapas, and the mojitos are slammin. The place is big too, with two floors and balconies overlooking the dance floors, as well as an outdoor patio that stays packed when it's warm out. It's a great place to meet friends for a few drinks or some tapas, or to go for a night of sweaty dancing. They usually have live bands on weekends, as well as DJ a variety of salsa and Latin pop music, including hip hop (yay!). I love the mix at Loca, with lots of hot Latin people from all over, as well as a hodge podge of everyone else, with people kickin everything from jeans and a T-shirt to skimpy cocktail dresses. The atmosphere is fun and laid back, with people ranging from salsa pros to first-time Latin clubbers dancing side by side. I liked how guys ask you if you want to dance, instead of just coming up behind you and sneaking into it like they do at many clubs. Plus, it made me feel like perhaps I'm not a salsa leper lol. I think it's a good sign when people are dripping with sweat from dancing instead of lined up in the bathroom to reapply makeup and pat perfectly sculpted hair. The only mediocre thing about Loca is the food~ it's not bad but not great. But the drinks are always amazing and It's all about the dancing and good times. I no longer live in Atlanta and this is one of the places I miss the most.

Falling through this rabbit hole isn't nearly as fun as Alice would have you believe. My friends and I came here for New Year's on a ticket that stated open bar and a 3am closing time. Open bar at a club? Never again. The bar was unaccessible because layers of people were crowded around it waiting for their Long Islands and Vodka Tonics so they wouldn't have to stand in that mob twice. The drinks were strong though, thank God! And a 3am closing time? Yeah, they started to tell people to leave around 1:45. Assholes. A few other notes. The music was great, lots of hip hop as opposed to house, which I like. Very West Coast. The purples and red of the club were beautiful and I loved the Alice decor as I am a huge fan of the story. But there was no real dance floor! So unless you had a VIP table, you kind of had to dance around other people's VIP tables. Lame. There are plenty of other rabbit holes to jump into in Hollywood.

Oh yay! Yoshi's in San Francisco is open!! I really like the shows at Yoshi's, great musicians, great shows and tickets are reasonable for how close you are to the performers. I know it IS a small place but that's what I like about Yoshi's. Yes, tables are clammed together. Yes, it is sort of uncomfortable sitting so close to your neighbors.....so what? Jeez... come ride the Japanese train during the rush hour and tell me about your "personal space'!! I didn't get to eat food here but I saw some people having food at the bar area and it looked as good quality as Yoshi's in Oakland, where I had sushi before. Pricey side but good food. Nice setting, cool brand-spanking-new building and again, they have great shows here. Now it is open in the city I would come here more often!
