I had a great time here the other night. I didn't realize the place was so expensive until I read the reviews since all four of us were out on a double date I never saw a bill. we had the fish tank drink! wow 2.5 gallons of alcohol and it didn't even taste like it. the evidence that the drink was in fact strong is how quickly I became impaired and went from a bad to worse bowler. well, and the huge bruise on my thigh from crashing into the ball rack celebrating my spare... pre bowling we sat upstairs in the bar area to get our drink on. for a snack we had the hummus and pita. it was actually good, which i did not expect. the bread was warm and just a hint crisp as if it were fresh! our lane was downstairs- which I didnt know was there- the music kept me rockin, the crowd was hoppin and the shoes weren't gross... pretty good as far as bowling alleys go.

Lately, I have been drawing a blank when it comes time to choose a casual dining option. Well, I need look no further than Silk City's outdoor patio. Mr. H has been before and he raved about what a mellow spot it is. Agreed. We arrived fairly early last saturday (around 7:30p), so had no problem getting a table outside. i ordered the strawberry basil margarita and it was quite good. not too sweet. Service was fast. Our waitress promptly took our appetizer/dinner order. We started with the flatbread special. It was nothing to write home about. The sauce was very bland. Ditto for the crust. On a positive note, the italian sausage was very flavorful, particularly the fennel seeds. My entree was an improvement. I ordered the portabella mushroom burger with spinach, red pepper, caramelized fennel and goat cheese on brioche. YUM! Talk about explosion of flavors! I am a big fan of the mushroom burger at the standard tap, but this one may be my new fave. So, I will definitely be back for the burger and outdoor dining.

Judging from the evidence of last Thursday night (see Exhibit 1: my new primary photo), this place is pretty fun. I've now been twice (most recently for a big birthday celebration), but for some reason I was reluctant to try it again. Maybe because the first time I came here my night ended with a 2 mile walk down Melrose from Pink's to my apartment. In heels. Dumb. This time the night was a much greater success (considering it didn't result in the need for a serious foot massage the next day). When I went, the DJ in the bar area was a lot better than whatever was playing out on the dance floor. So we rocked our own mini dance party to Rihanna (thanks for taking requests!) in close proximity to more whiskey sours. Yummm.
