by Loma Bruechert on My 1st review in Philly! I was here last weekend and I liked this place. Very cool vibe, formal servers all in black. The interior is also slick - very nice waved design ceiling. What was funny is that our server explains everything on what's on the plate. I was like - I want to eat now! haha. We ordered: sake - I got the cheapest one (20 bucks I think). 3 shots and I thought that was strong. Good though. Shrimp tempura - you can't go wrong with that. Duck - good. Sea bass - very good. Kobe filet - very good. Chocolate Pot de Creme - THE BOMB. One of the best dessert that I've tried so far. It's a custard with glazed banana wrapped around it. I think the only downside for me is the ^%^% price and not the traditional Japanese food that I was expecting. I was craving for the real deal (or authentic Japanese). If you are looking for a playful or Japanese fusion cuisine, this is the place for you.
by Tai Amonette on Certainly exclusive, it's the "it" place in town, as it's newly opened. Drais is the rooftop of the new W Hotel Hollywood. When we arrived at the hotel we checked out the hotel lobby first which was a little weird because the whole thing is like the bar but it's a huge vast space and not an intimate bar club feel at all. We saw The Pickup Artist Mystery on our way out 5 minutes later. Around the other side of the hotel is the unmarked rope for Drais. It was 10:30/11and not much of a line when we tried but they weren't even letting groups of hot girls walk straight in. We waited for a while then my boyfriend slipped the bouncer a $20. That got us to the next velvet rope where we had to wait again. After that line we each paid a $20 cover which you reluctantly hand over because you've waited that long already, right? After $60 we were annoyed stepping into the elevator. The all mirrored elevator took us up. The rooftop has a view and surrounds a beautiful pool. We waited yet again for the bartender to help us. He did give us a free fiji when I asked for water however. Cabanas encircle the perimeter of the rooftop (similar to Four Seasons Westlake). There is bottle service poolside and inside. The inside area had a good d.j. and go go dancers up next to disco columns. Unimpressive decor in here but the lighting/sound system built in makes up for it. Drais has a beautiful crowd but is overhyped. Was it worth going once, maybe. Upon exiting there was a long line to get in. And nobody was getting in.
by Gabriel C. on Went for the first time to experience Idol Warhip's performance. At first I was impressed by the size and the decor. The staircase is amazing..but as soon as I got my seat for the show, I wasn't impressed any longer by the stains on the all the seats. Yuck. It waited for about 25 minutes to get my beer. I guess it was worth the wait, but I waited so long I couldn't have ordered another one if I wanted to. Also the crowd at the venue made the Bay Area look lame. I'm sure if the show was thrown at the Jack London/Oakland Yoshi's the performers would have felt more appreciated.
