My first time at Velvet Margarita seem like a journey... It was Friday night and there was serious traffic in the area. I didn't want to valet my new car so I opted to park my own car at Arclight. I walked up to Velvet and was greeted by tall dark and handsome door man. Inside the host was the same. I went to the bar to grab a drink while waiting for my friends... $5 house margaritas, price not bad but extremely watered down. When my friends arrived, we were seated in a nice spot. Our server was great, and food arrived promptly. I wasn't too excited about the food but I devoured the chips with red & green salsa. I was on my third drink and felt nothing! I had to double-dare my server to give me a stiffer drink, which he gladly did. The ambiance and decor is great - I love the 'Dios de los muertos' theme. I think this restaurant is more of a novelty and great when entertaining people from out of town.

OK I finally got to the new Fado, and all I can say is WOW! The place is nice, big, and clean. The main bar is huge, and the drinks flow with no problem. Now I did not eat there yet, but from what I could see and smell it also looked good. I am looking forward to going back there for a food and good times.

Located near the Capitol complex and suprisingly a methodist church... Charlie's is one of Austin's oldest gay bars. Friday's are popular as you can get $1 well drinks after paying a 3$ cover - an affordable way to start the weekend. Music here is pretty much top 40/r&b - lots of spice girls, shakira, brandy, madonna, and whitney. Drag shows here are very fun. I hear Karoke night is also a fun night.
