So I went to the dirtybird party last night (1/21/11) and got there early to enjoy the open bar (advertised from 9-11p). When I got inside, at 9:57p the open bar had already ended and several of my friends told me that it ended over 20 minutes earlier. Needing to drink, I ordered a "$5 Vodka drink" special. I ordered a vodka redbull and the guy told me that it would be $7. When I pointed to the sign, he told me that Redbull is $2 more. Alright, one final complaint about the drinks. At the upstairs bar, I order a PBR tall boy and the overweight, aging, irritable guy tells me it's $9!! I was shocked that they would charge $9 for a beer that costs ~$2 retail. Most places charge ~ $5 for one. It's sad that these kinds of things are managed so poorly, because I really do like the club and the dirtybird nights are really fun. I will think twice about going to another one of these nights.

i used to go to 1984 a lot. now that i look back on those sad, sad times, i realize they were also TOTALLY GROSS. if i could give this place negative stars for the bondage nights my old gross roommates used to go to (for which they would prepare their fat asses for by taping up their nipples on either non-existant or saggy boobs - depending on which gross old roommate we're talking about - and prancing around the house almost nude) i WOULD. gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.

This place is cool. I have been curious for a while and finally went there for a meal and a little music. Solid Ethiopian food, great music, diverse crowd. The Doro Wat (chicken in spicy sauce) was particularly good and VERY spicy. The Yemisser Kir Wat (lentils) was also delicious. I really enjoyed all of the vegetarian dishes. I found the Yebeg Alecha (lamb in mild spices) to be bland but that was the only weak point of the meal. A very nice spot on Fillmore in the Jazz Preservation District.
