by CH M. on I've just returned home after one of the best SF nights out I can remember in years. I'm writing this review because our experience at Biscuits & Blues was the exact opposite of some of the negative reviews I read here. In fact because of some of these one-star reviews, we almost decided not to go, and that would have been a huge mistake. So don't let some of these cranky reviewers here sway you - you must try this place for yourself. We went on a Friday night (1/21/11) to see Guthrie Govan perform upstairs at the Union Room, 4 of us including two teenage boys. We arrived around 6:30, stood in line for about two minutes and got our reserved tickets from the very friendly guy at the counter. Upstairs we were immediately led to a table about half way back (still very good in this room) but when I asked the waitress if we could get any closer since our kids wanted to see Guthrie play the guitar, she said sure, and led us right up next to the stage, probably the best table left in the house. Within 5 minutes we'd been greeted by our waiter, who brought menus and took our drink orders. Ten minutes later we'd been served the drinks and he'd taken our food order. And by this time the house was nearly full. I told our group not to expect much from the food, since I'd read these terrible reviews on rateclub - but I really have to say everything we had was really good. The prices weren't cheap, but they're about what you'd expect in downtown SF in a night club, and we all had more than we could eat - the chicken and ribs were great, as was the jambalaya. And it was all delivered hot and in about the same time you'd expect in any restaurant. The whole place was clean and comfortable, with what looked like relatively new decor and furnishings, and every single staff person we dealt with was pleasant and helpful. We were even allowed to stay after the show and got signed posters from Guthrie. So all I can say is either this place is under new ownership, or all these other negative reviewers live on some other planet. I'm taking the time to write this because I'm actually a little pi**ed off at the negative commentors, since they nearly caused me to avoid this place. Instead we took a chance and our boys got to see one of the world's best guitar players from about 10 feet away and we all had a terrific family night out in the City.
by Muriel Wolzen on Many people may think that I'm crazy for giving Jillian's 5 stars, but I met the love of my life here so it holds crazy sentimental meaning for me. I went on a Saturday night 2 years ago to celebrate my friend's 30th birthday. His wife rented out an entire section for all of the party goers. There were plenty of appetizers floating around and my now boyfriend was showering me w/ drinks 'o plenty. Maybe it was the crowd and the rest of the party goers (or me being blizzed out of my mind due to all of the Cape Cod concoctions) but I had a blast. The music was great (hip-hop) and I was sweating up a storm from dancing so much. I'll always love Jillian's!!!!!
by fallyn s. on Amazing Ethiopian food!!! I love this restaurant. Service is friendly and fast. Food is delicious and relatively cheap. This place has a great vibe and a fab juke box.
