Living in Asia (the origin of karaoke) and having frequented all sorts of karaoke places, I consider myself a karaoke expert. I have to say this is the best place I've ever been to. When I first walked in, it felt like I was walking into a Vegas nightclub/lounge, only with karaoke rooms instead! The ambiance is awesome and the lighting and decor really gives the place a chic and hip feel. Each room has its own server and they have a good food and drink menu. Each room is also equipped with an iPad to pick your songs. Enough said.

I went to Harem with very low expectations. Though I am not really into the club scene, I do like trying to salsa dance from time to time. I had a pretty decent time. The music and dancing were very good. The dance floor was bigger, and the crowd was more relaxed, than at the Sky Club on Wednesday and Thursday Salsa Nights. The only problem I found was that the bartender was essentially an improviser with booze, and charged sort of random prices. But I would return.

Sushi Smooshi! Oslo's lower level was... rough. High drink prices, smoky as all hell, and shoulder-to-shoulder too-cool hipsters there to see someone "spin" music off of a laptop. Though both the upper level and the lower were amazingly put together (in fact, the top level had the most beautiful bar-top I've seen in the city), it was mostly the people that went there that killed it for me. Give me grit, grime, guts! Not noses in the air and ridiculous prices on the menu (though I hear it's a bit different now. Hmm. I may go back. Maybe.) I don't know. I'd find a place in the burbs to get sushi before I'd go back to this place. That is, anywhere except Little Tree. And if they're going to continue hosting events in the lower level, then I'd suggest more than a laptop and a stool. Why not a Gameboy?
