I was doing it bhangra style and looking good at Little Baobab's Bollywood Night a few Thursdays ago. Now, to be fair, I am a novice bhangra shaker, but I think my middle eastern hip moves saved me, along with a friend's instructions, but damn did I have a great time. Great cheap drinks, decent cover (wait, I don't recall paying a cover!), and best of all, great Indian jams spun by the best white bollywood DJ's outside of India! I haven't had this much fun dancing freely in a long long long time... I can't vouch for the food served here, but I'm sure its good...I plan to return to feast and shake what my mama gave me...

The music here on Wednesday was mainstream hip-hop for a lot of the time, so that's good for some people. Here's a little tip which I think most of the Rateclub audience won't need: If you, as Chris Rock would say, are the old guy in da club, rocking your 5 PM blazer and business shirt won't help. When you walk into a club and no one else is wearing a blazer, don't despair, even though your hair is starting to fall out. You could at least try taking off your blazer. Then you won't look as old. It only takes a second. And don't be a sketchy guy or run into people on the dance floor. This isn't the trading floor. Oh, and if you live in, like Vallejo or San Jose, why do you bother driving so far just for a Wedneday night? Do you have a job? Here's one other tip: If you meet someone, and you notice something unusual about them, like maybe their race or hair color or height or profession, don't say, "Hey, I have a ____ fetish." It's not a turn-on. I haven't been, but I hear lines like that may be okay at the Power Exchange. Maybe save the line for there? Thanks. But the view at Starlight is really nice.
