"I'll be at the frying pan," she said.  I thought my friend was trying to use a figure of speech/idiom, but it's actually a boat!  And not only is it a boat, it's a bar on a boat!! I immediately googled it and discovered that the Frying Pan was salvaged from the Chesapeake Bay, and being a Maryland girl, I was a fan right away. It's such a fun thing to do on a sunny warm afternoon with a good group of friends, but it may be crowded and tough to find an open table if you go when everybody goes right after work.  But the beers and mixed drinks are fairly priced (I believe you can get a bucketful of Corona for pretty cheap) and they have Old Bay Garlic Fries!!  I loooove Old Bay. You also get a pretty nice view of the NJ Hudson "skyline."  It gets cold when the sun goes down though since it's on the water.  But fun, reasonably priced drinks, and it's on a boat!  But no T-Pain.

The sniffing / petting boy from the Nite Cap ( http://www.rateclubs.com/us...) had texted me during the day asking to do something later, don't ask how he got my number I don't want to talk about it. I had told both GBF#1 and GBF#2 about him, I mean how could I not tell them,  after all it's not often I get sniffed or petted by boys.  They both told me to suck it up and let him take me out but make sure he paid for everything.  I wasn't sure how long I could stand being sniffed and petted again, so I told him I'd go grab a drink somewhere with him if he promised not to be all touchy feely kissy kissy with me cause I wasn't feeling it.  I thought this might scare his off, it didn't.  I than said I wanted to go some place that was nice and close to my hotel, no more Tenderloin dive bars for me. He came back with the Starlight Room I said OK. We enter the Sir Francis Drake hotel and ride the elevator up to the Starlight Room.  The elevator doors open and we are greeted with a red carpet, oh la la much classier than the Ha-Ra and Nite Cap from the night before.  We are next met with a cash register, $5.00 cover to get in and check this place out, cheap cover but still a cover at a hotel bar that's kind of funny. We head to the bar, I review the cocktail menu and go for the Sun Splash, it had vodka and pomegranate and some other things in it and for $12.00 it wasn't bad, actually it was good, so good I had to have two of them. The place has some nice comfy booths to sit down in but it was freezing in there and the lights were so dim I couldn't see five feet in front of me and the sound was so loud I couldn't hear myself think.  It was kind of miserable in there for me, the Nite Cap was looking better and better as the seconds passed, ok not really it wasn't looking better. Once the dancing started and the music got louder the petting sniffer took me around the bar to show me the views and the sites and where he lived in case I was interested in heading there anytime soon.  The views were nice but didn't mix well with the lights, temperature and music.  After my second sun splash I had to tinkle I head to the ladies room and there is a gaggle of females in there having a MySpace photo shoot, I push my way past them and head into one of the three empty stalls.  What happened next shocked me, two girls went into the stall next to me and started taking pictures!  WTF who does that people?  I finish, wash my hands and headed back out to my benefactor for the night and as the girls stumbled out of the ladies room I realized what they were, they were the female version of the douchebags!  I did not have to head to the Marina to find San Francisco douchebags I found their female counterpart in the ladies room at the Starlight Room! Don't come here unless you have a benefactor to pick up your tab for the evening it's not all that great plus you had to deal with a gaggle of female douchebags!

When I was a DJ at KALX I used to get free tickets to this place all the time. I wouldn't think twice about seeing a show here. I kind of got used to it as a venue. I came here last night after having had not been in at least two years. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! The sight lines are pretty good [except for that tall guy whose girlfriend is in front of him & he's not caring whether or not you see, but that his GF gets a good unobstructed view.] The sound system is great too. My one complaint is the sound at the bar itself. Last night's show of Mirah & the Blow were great, but the people who were hanging out at the bar being all loud were louder than the quiet softness that is Mirah. At some places [du Nord] they have a curtain between the stage area & the bar area to help muffle the sound.
