Had a surprisingly good time! I went on a Wednesday night to see Steve Lawler (house DJ). The bad reviews of Opera had me worried, and normally I'd steer clear of an 18+ night, but I couldn't pass up seeing Steve. My friend and I made sure to get on the guestlist beforehand, and we also bought $10 tickets online for will call. Parking was easy -- $5 public lot with plenty of space, right across the street from Opera. We arrived around 10:15pm and the line was SERIOUSLY long. But as soon as we got in line, a door guy said if we were already on the guestlist, we could jump the line for an extra $10 each. We took the offer but we didn't end up having to pay the extra money (I wasn't sure if it was because we'd bought tickets online, but I wasn't asking questions)... so we got right in, within about 5 minutes of arriving. We walk into the main room and BAM it's 18 year olds, bad hip hop, and a stripper pole in your face. Didn't matter, since we'd come to see Steve Lawler in the Venetian Room (the back room) anyway. We stayed there all night and had a great time. Drinks were about $8, and the bartender was pretty nice. Steve came on just after 12am, and he was amazing as expected. Ugh so it was a little hard to avoid a couple over-friendly skeezes (blegh thinking about it now, I want a shower and strong soap), but there were also some pretty cool people. 4 stars for a one-time good-time. BUT all the bad reviews are for a reason, I'm sure... so I'll definitely go back next time there's a DJ I want to see, but I'm still wary.

Nice venue, decent crowd, same overpriced drinks. Didn't eat dinner there, but reserved a table for New Year's. We had a great table, unfortunately someone slipped on the dance floor. They let people bring their drinks to the dance floor, dance around drunk, and then spill precious alcohol on the floor= falling in your heels. Who wants to get sticky alcohol stuck on your beautiful shoes and perfectly manicured toes? Gross. We had good table service, but yes, the stairs were a bit scary too. Music was pretty good too...i think

Great place! I went there on a Tuesday night for a friend's birthday. The bouncers were cool. Being a guy, i had to pay the $20 cover, but i think it was worth it. Most girls get in free. (If you're a girl and they dont think you look good enough they will make you pay. This had to be the funniest interaction between a promoter and party-goer i've seen thus far: The promoter is picking out girls from the line one by one to let them in for free- "Okay you, you, you, and you" "Me! Please pick me, pick me" says the eager but not too attractive girl from crowd "Ummm, I dont think so." "I'll pay! I'll pay!" "SHE'LL PAY. LET 'ER IN!!" It was pretty sad, but funny nonetheless.) Inside the there are three distinct areas spread across two floors. (Though it seems as if there is very little sound proofing, you cant hear anything from the other areas of the club, which was pretty cool since the three areas play very different music). The back room with the bar and table service was the best, it wasn't too crowded, and the drinks were really strong -- a huge plus. It eventually got really crowded because there was a celebrity birthday there, but before that point it was great. Overall. Pro's- Nice set up, good music, strong drinks, good looking girls Con's- Long line Marquee is one of the best on 27th street. Try to get in with a promoter though so you wont have to wait in the long ass line.
