by mary c. on oh brother! this place is the pinacle of over the top cheesy hollywood. i was invited to an event a few weeks ago and finally had a chance to check it out. yes, they have a great view of hollywood, but this LA girl is not a fan of Drai's Hollywood. the actual Drai's space is pretty small, but interesting looking. you can walk outside into the pool and cabana area and hang there as well, but be careful. the night i was there, a couple on the bed next to me were having sex. classy.
by Michael J. on It seems this place gets a lot of great reviews, but I am not sure why...the atmosphere is cool and the layout is eclectic, but I can't really find a reason otherwise to like this place. I went there to see a friend play and grabbed a few beers, it was not crowded so it was easy and the bartenders were very accommodating (the only plus). The waitress whom I had to order from was a bitch, and instructed me that I had to sit in one specific really tight cramped area in order to get served food an because my girlfriend was not eating, she could not sit there. I order the calamari, which took at least 30-40 minutes to get to me. The "thai" sauce was no where near spicy and the calamari was horribly soggy. I would imagine they would have tasted better if cooked right as the breading was delightful. All in all a less than stellar experience, not to mention they have no handicap accessibility and they gave a bunch of my friends a hard time for their IDs. It appears the SF hipster crowd has prevailed in giving this place a better rating than it deserves.
by Claude Garrard on Music makes the people come together. I'm not much of a dancer, but I have to say, the DJ was spinning some magic to make me want to move even while I waited patiently in a line out the door. Totally inappropriately dressed for this place (flip flops, halter, cargo skirt), I still managed to get let in (finally). Of course once inside, I had to wait in yet another line for the b-room. It was PACKED inside so chances of getting a drink were narrowed down greatly. It was dark, I suppose that's good when you'd rather not know who that was who graze grabbed your bum while waiting in line. Anyway, I gave it 3 stars because I liked the place. I would have given it more stars if I actually went dancing on a regular basis. plus, it beats some other clubs I've been to and I liked the music. Gooooo Middlesex!
