by Shad Reiten on This bar should be the one that locals hit up instead of the other trendy "dive bars" on this particular stretch of Polk and Geary. "Why?" you may ask. It's simple really: the space is generous and well proportioned in terms of seating as there are pews for benches lining the walls seamlessly as well as tons of chairs and bar stools. If you are the type to sit at a bar you are not so close to those choosing the tables and chairs/pew benches as to have to hear your fellow bar patrons conversations. The bar is very well equipped to deal with a variety of tastes and boasts many top shelf alcohols as my St.Germain loving friend realized tonight. The bartenders are awesome! At least the dapper and dear hearted Chardmo who is best seen on Sunday and Mondays as well as another day I cannot recall (hanging head in shame at not being a good enough friend). I have heard that Mondays are rocking and rather busy so if you are looking to avoid a crowd that would be the day to do so. The DJ plays great mellow and yet simultaneously recognizable good music that will have you nodding your head but not necessarily feeling the need to embarrass yourself by dancing around drunkenly...unless you do that anyway. Prices are cheap and happy hour specials are pretty cool. The bathrooms are not only clean but they have candlelight as well as regular lighting to set a nice mood that I would seriously like translated into the next place I inhabit (my current location being temporary). This may be my new favorite hangout! I don't find this to be a dive bar in anyway other than location and even that is suspect as I don't find this a particularly sketchy area. It's even located conveniently along several Owl bus routes so you've got a drunken and cheap way home if you opt not to cab. Oh! And Domino's down the street delivers cheap, delicious, fresh and piping hot pizzas that will have you wondering how come so many people bag on Domino's?
by Soo-Jin L. on My friend and I went on a pretty slow week night. The hot pink lighting is other worldly. I would go back when the crowd is thicker. My dirty gin martini was all right.
