If you can get in by knowing someone, this place is pretty good. Some people wait for hours, and I would've taken a star off for that but I never had to wait. Inside is pretty big. When you walk in, it's an outdoor area with fountains and firepits to keep warm. As you go deeper inside, there are sitting areas and then down a small flight of stairs is the main area with dance floor and VIP sections. It's pretty big and they have upstairs VIP areas that overlook the main area. Decent music. Sometimes they'll serve tacos outside too. Drinks are pricey but that's the norm at a place like this. No surprise. Park at the Arclight parking structure and just walk 2 blocks so you don't have to pay double.

When I got invited to the Kress last week, I thought this would be the perfect time to see this fancy new restaurant and club. I mentioned it to my friend the fashion designer who used to work in the building Kress now is (and if you know the history of the building, you know this was the old Frederick's of Hollywood office and flagship store). We decided to check it out and it was pretty cool to hear her say, "Oh, this was where my old desk was! Oh, this was where the closet was." And so on and so forth. The event allowed us wristbands where we could enjoy the top floor but not the roof. We took the stairs up. I think they needed to paint the stairwell and clean up the railings a bit. While it's "cool" to feel like I'm sneaking off to something magical, I just didn't like being in the stairwell that long. And never mind coming back down. I thought it was a fire hazard with that many people coming and going. There are security guards on every floor to direct you and presumably to help you if you need assistance. Once upstairs, we could see the space was beautifully decorated (minus the evil looking arm chairs in the front bar). I liked the cushy white couches. The black chandeliers were pretty nifty as well. The restroom was relatively clean early in the night but there were only two stalls and with that many people, they need an attendant to keep track of the toilet paper. Pretty soon there was no more toilet paper. Since the event was sponsored by Stoli, I can only comment on those cocktails served. Most were too sweet and I eventually just ended up with vodka on the rocks. They were also passing around beef and chicken skewers as well as quesadillas. The restaurant is apparently Asian fusion. I snagged a chicken skewer and tried to shake off most of the sauce. It was good but I didn't want to drip sauce all over the place since I wasn't offered a napkin. The chicken was actually pretty good but then I hit a not fully cooked piece and was grossed out. I hope the copious amounts of vodka I drank killed any possibility of salmonella poisoning. I really enjoyed the DJ who was in the middle room. A decent mix of current and old school favorite hip hop. And the back room looked like you could reserve space for private parties. Overall, we had a good time but I'm not sure I'd come back with if I had to deal with a list and a line again. They couldn't find my name in the first line I was in and told us to go to the other list. Why weren't the lists combined? I spoke to someone and got my party in without having to go to the other line. I suppose it helps to name drop. Typical Hollywood b.s. Oh, and yes, the entrance to the club is behind the building where the parking/ valet is. We parked in a nearby parking structure for $8 as I think valet here is $20 or so.

i was a bartender at deco(now zee bar) for many years. i cannot believe what they did to this place. when it first opened. i couldnt even figure out where my old bar was. it is beautiful. unrecognizable. after hours always serves its purpose. somewhere else to go. i love the staff. some , of which, are long time friends. djs are great. clientel is always shadey at that time in the morning. but they seem to do a good job of keeping the rif raf out. i have to say, out of all the after hours places in philly, this is the nicest.
