A fun place to hang out on a weekend or weeknight downstairs at the bar or at a table, but a GREAT place to see a band perform. From the outside of this place, you wouldn't guess the gem that it is inside. The downstairs has a nice long bar with a few booths  adorned with cool table lights that change colors every few seconds. The back has a bunch of tables where you can linger over drinks or have a meal. The menu changes, but all my friends rave about the raw bar, which is 1/2 off during happy hour. The best way to experience JB's is to see a show upstairs. They get a lot of good indie bands and the upstairs is very interesting looking. There is a decent sized bar in one room and then standing room by the small stage. But the best part by far is the balcony a level above. It affords great views of the show and if you're lucky you can stake out a spot here or if the stars align you can even get one of a handful of seats and plant yourself in front of the balcony. If you've never hung out in Fishtown, head over to JB's early on a Friday after work and sit back and enjoy or check out one of the bands playing here on a weeknight. It's hipster and non-hipster heaven.

Stayed at the phoenix on a Sunday and Monday night in April, had no problems with noise. In fact, we went swimming at 9pm and were the only two people outside of our hotel room. This may be because the Bambuddha louge was closed both nights. I also had no problems with bums or crack heads, pimps, hoes...whatever. Anyways, it's San Francisco so what do you expect? I found the hotel to be conveniently located near union square (walking distance) and to the bus stop to take you to haight & ashbury. The staff at the front desk was really friendly and informative which I appreciated. Parking kinda sucked but they had a free lot so I didn't even think to complain. I loved the decor inside and out, statues, pool, bed spread, trendy magazines. If you're looking for a unique, fun, cultured, interesting view of San Fran, stay at the phoenix hotel!

Wicked awesome. I had heard about Rise and wanted to try it out...it just so happened I met someone a little before close at Club Cafe and we didn't want the night to end, so Rise came to the rescue. If you're sick of the fact that the entire city seems to shut down at 2am, then you may want to check out Rise. Conveniently located and crawling with a wide range of people, I think this place could be great for just about anyone. Assuming you like to dance and not hear your friends talk. But seriously, I saw everyone from gays (like me and my friend) to your everyday jocks and straight chicks. I've never been to a club like this. Honestly the LOUDEST music I've ever heard...even when shouting into my new friend's ear, he couldn't hear a word. The only place you could kind of understand someone would be in the stairwell or a bathroom, and that's KIND OF understand. The music is some wild techno and granted it may not be my scene, it was frickin' cool. People were everywhere. Dancing. Music. Fog. Lights. I felt like I was involved in some secret rave. I think Rise could redefine Boston as a place to club late into the night. We ended up leaving early, 4:00am. And the place was STILL packed with a line outside (the line doesn't take too long to get thru). Be aware though, it is members only/friends of members. So if you aren't one, be prepared to spend some bucks. It cost my new friend and I $30 each to get in (he paid, so I'm not complaining!). I'm not sure if I would have liked it as much if I weren't drunk though....could be a place that is over crowded and too loud for soberness (if you're like me). But it was awesome and I would definitely go again!
