I went there for an alumni meeting which was held on the second floor of Medjool. The location is very good it is very closed to 24th/Mission BART which makes it very convenient for me to get there from east bay. Their appetizers (fries, fried calamari and other stuffs) are really fantastice. The cocktail is pretty decent but a little bit pricey as expected. Overall, I like the place. The restaurant is decorated in a very fashionable way - very upscale. I have never been to its roof top so cant comment on that. For me, this place is a nice lounge to hang out in a mediocre neighborhood. (havent checked out the girl there though :P )

I'm new in town, and I've been going here every Saturday for my dose of L.A.'s trance scene. They usually have great DJ's, a sweet dance floor, creative lighting, and an awesome set of bartenders. I say usually because sometimes it just doesn't happen that way. Some Saturdays are filled with crappy douchebag people with their old ho's and drugs. Please, do us a favor and stay at the fricking Avalon.

Went on a Tuesday night, which I think is usually gay. At least, it certainly was last Tuesday. $3 cover charge is both good and bad. Good in that, well, it's only $3. Bad is that it's not much of a barrier to entry. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," yadda, yadda, yadda. Problem with a super huge venue like this is that unless it's a special event, it will seem pretty empty even though there are hoards of people. One room is playing house music, one room rap, one room rock n espanol, and then a fourth room with some sort of karaoke drag show? The sound was decent, but in almost all the rooms the music was on preprogrammed tracks most of the time. But I'm not complaining because when the DJs were manning the system they kept "mixing it up," which is even more annoying: as soon as you found your groove, they'd change the track. Ugh. Drinks were cheap and strong. Crowd was very, very Latino, of various flavors: cha cha queens, cholos, emos, preps, jocks. Not exactly teeming with hotties, but there were definitely a handful of guys that made my stay worth it. The go-go boys were just so-so. But again, the cover was only $3, there was close by street parking, and it was a Tuesday night, so....
