For some places it's all about the ambiance.... at the Salt Lick it's about the food. Having a hard time deciding what to buy, I just "eenie-meenie-miney-moh'd" it and chose the smoked turkey sandwich with Salt Lick's famous BBQ sauce. Holy hell that was a good choice! The woman behind the glass cut up two honking chunks of fresh, moist, tasty turkey meat and slapped them on a squishy, soft bun the size of a baseball glove. Then she painted the whole thing with some BBQ sauce and wala, it was done! After just a few minutes the sandwich went from counter to belly and it was one of the best I've ever had. Simple ingredients made it an intense experience. I couldn't have eaten somewhere better before taking off on an airplane. I'll miss the Salt Lick!

I've been thinking for a few days about what would be a fair number of stars to give to the most bizarre dining experience I think I've ever had. I thought I had settled on two stars for the disappointing experience, until the even more unacceptable aftermath. Came with a group of girls for a send-off dinner last week. The evening began nicely, with a great bartender and server...nevermind that we were the only people there for an hour or so (and even when the other four tables showed up, we appeared to be the only ones under the age of 50). Kind of strange for a place that is hyped in the city as trendy and exclusive. In any case, the ambiance seemed to be  old world and stately...maybe an establishment for the elite. We ordered two bottles of wine, several apps, entrees and dessert, most of which were rather tasty. Here's where the night took a turn, very far south. An older man who was also dining decided it would be fun to turn this intimate and elegant room into a trashy saloon. He brought out a harmonica and guitar and launched into an out-of-tune version of Folsom Prison, but not before ordering my friend out of her seat to make room for him. We proceeded with our conversation until we were shushed by the very man causing all of the unpleasant raucous. He shushed and he shushed while another table of old folks egged him on. The brazen music and disrespectful show carried on for the remainder of our meal (a full hour) as we attempted to eat our dessert, no longer able to enjoy the going away party for our friend. Add to this the two disgusting guys who invited themselves over to our table to hit on us. Not once did any member of the staff come over to intervene. Does this sound like the type of night you would like to have when choosing to have a $500 meal with friends? Only after I mentioned our ruined evening to the bartender on the way out did Ria, the manager follow us into the lobby to apologize, extending an offer for us to come back some time for drinks (did I mention the song and dance was still going on at this point?). Yeah, I'm sure a martini more than makes up for an overpriced, wasted evening. Fast forward four days. One of my girl friends sees that she has been charged double for her portion of the bill and spends a great deal of her day speaking with Le Club to sort this out. Turns out they screwed up and charged her twice and not one of the other girls at the table. And rather than sucking up the cost, Ria is making my friend hunt down the credit card number and call back. Yes, Ria, the same manager that "apologized" in the lobby of the restaurant for an evening that "is not typical at Le Club." Seems to me that you guys have quite the pattern of poor customer service! Save your time, money and ears. Especially if you are under the impression you will be dining in style. It's amazing how one poor choice made by the staff to oh, let their restaurant be turned into a low-class karaoke bar can turn our evening into a complete circus show. We will certainly not be taking you up on your offer for drinks, Ria. And the one star really isn't for anyone but the three fabulous girls who put up with Le Club with me that evening. At least we have a story to pass along to everyone we know.

Quite possibly the most overrated restaurant in Atlanta.  Allegedly it was quite the rage in NYC back in the day, but I suppose too many better restaurants opened in the meantime to spoil us by the time it got down here.  The guacamole really is fantastic, but you end up paying for the poor guy making it tableside.  Once I asked if I could just have an order of guacamole because I already knew how to make it -- no such luck. The other food just really isn't good.  I'm sorry to be blunt.  I don't understand the hype.  Their signature cocktail -- the frozen pommegranite margarita -- is served out of a machine and is absolutely flavorless and disappointing.
