by William L. on I was so incensed by this place tonight that I had to write a review. I arrived with my friend at 10:20 pm to make the 11:00 guest list for a birthday party and there was already a line a block long. That was fine by me except when I called my friend who had already made it inside, the club was almost entirely empty. We proceeded to wait, and ironically, the line started to pick up some movement after 11:00 pm rolled around. At 11:55, the line was still a solid 80 people. We were about 5 people from the door when a bouncer comes out and says, "TOO MANY GUYS GO AWAY GO FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO DO TONIGHT!" Even before people know what is going on, the bouncer's minions come out to shoo people away. He proceeds to remove about 50 guys from the line and let in the remaining 30 girls. I am all for maintaining a good ratio of guys to girls but have some decency to let the line know a little earlier rather than have them wait until midnight to tell them about the ratio issue. Also, when you are turning away customers, do it with a little more class rather than yelling and pretending like we are at your mercy to provide entertainment. In this review, I can't tell you anything about the inside of the club, but the lack of planning and rudeness of the staff just from the line is enough to let me know that this place is terrible. Don't waste your time here; they don't deserve it.
by Cece S. on I wanted to like it because of the name. They could have done a lot with a place called Harlot. Instead of doing anything creative though, they transplanted a tacky, STD-ridden slice of the LA clubbing scene to my beloved San Francisco. This place has corny decor, corny music and corny people, although I do kinda like the antler chandelier The drinks and staff were nothing to complain about, though.
by Johnnie Vassey on Call me a groupie. I have aspirations of having a rendezvous with the musical artists that perform at the Mezzanine. I would throw my bra on stage to get their attention if i had to. This was actually my first small venue concert in SF. I had been to Oracle and HP Pavilion to see headliners like Usher, Kanye, Lupe..errrr NSYNC, but nothing compares to the connection you feel with the artist at smaller venues. I came here on Valentine's Day earlier this year for a Common concert. The date was a HUGE hip hop head so I was able to score last minute tix on Craigslist (thank you again Craig for coming through for this procrastinator). Drinks were average priced. There's a balcony as well but we stayed on the ground floor, which surprisingly didn't get overly crowded and was well-ventilated...I didn't feel like a sweaty mess like some aZn clubs that shall remain nameless. And most importantly ladies, the bathrooms are CLEAN...hallelujah. A memorable valentine's day groovin to Common's freestyles :)
