I've been wanting to go to My House since last summer and two weekends ago, my friends and I finally made it! Even though we were on the guest list, we got there about 30 minutes after the list closed, so we had to pay a $20 cover. SO LAME. The dance floor was pretty packed, and small I might add. There are two bars, one in the "kitchen" area and one on the dance floor. The music was mostly mainstream top 40 stuff and the crowd was mostly Asian 21-25. Oh, and we also saw Puck from Glee there and took a picture with him! Overall, a pretty awesome Saturday night. The venue itself however, is only okay. 3 stars!

Both times that I have been here were not for clubbing reasons. So this review is not to rate the Avalon as a club/dance venue, but as a musical venue. The first time I came to see AIU's student fashion show, and I was surprised to see this club transform into a catwalk. The seating wasn't that great.... it's a club, it's small, but the atmosphere was mellow yet hectic at the same time--a bit crowded and some people were tipsy before the show even started, but nobody spilled their drinks on me! That's what I mean. The second time I came to see Japanese rock musician Miyavi. I didn't bother to fight for a seat in the "pit" area, choosing to lounge on one of their super-comfy booth seats--mind you I still had a GREAT view while not simultaneously rubbing up against a stranger. The acoustics in here are just superb. Miyavi's band consisted of a beatboxer and a tap dancer (really kick-ass) as well, and you could hear them both perfectly. I didn't pay for my drinks so I couldn't tell you how expensive they were or not, but I have to admit they were very watered down. Surprisingly this is a good place to catch a music act, I would definitely come back if someone like Miyavi dropped by town again.

If you like to get your badunkdadunk on, go to Bob. I went here a few times a few years ago, then again recently, and it's still the same, solid, fun place. Sure, it's tight, it's small, but the music is always good. They play things you'd actually dance to, and granted, it's too dark to slap the random guy who insists on grabbing you, but when they squeeze in the random Bell Biv DeVoe, you can't help but have a great time anyway. Bartenders and bouncers are always, always nice, and if you're nice back, they'll let you sit in their heated doorway while you smoke your cigarette. The best thing is that the people who go there could give a rat's ass about you, so if you go in wearing sneakers and doing the robot, go ahead. It's not pretentious, it's not over the top, it's just down to earth booty thumpin'.
