Three stars to the Piano guy - I was thoroughly entertained and had a big sh*t eating grin on my face the entire time I was there. The songs were old and new, some hip stuff that I was surprised to hear from a 50+ piano lounge singer. -2 stars for poor service. It took way too long to get a drink. Actually, those negative stars go to the people sitting at the bar looking smug and ignoring the fact that the bar is packed, people want drinks, and their "date" at 11p on a Sat night was a terrible idea. Your private conversation is far from private.... I can hear your every word as you tell your lady how sexy her dress is.... barf. And there weren't just one or two of you on dates... the entire bar. Spare everyone the nausea and move away from the bar stool and let people in for a drink! The crowd around the bar was 4 deep. I had a decent experience because I only stayed for one drink - no way I was going back for a second attempt. Cool place, nice vibe, good music. Not sure I'll ever come back though.

Whoa awesome - saw Holcome Waller here, which, if you are into super gay tenors, is fantabulous. We sat ON THE FLOOR, which is kind of gross, but also kind of cool that the vibe was like that. Nice place. Update: Saw the Submarines & BellX1 here last night - FANTASTIC show in a tiny venue - rock!

Yes, it's true what other Rateclubers are saying about Cafe du Nord...nice staff, reasonable ticket prices, easily accessible via MUNI (why bother with parking when you can just take the MUNI?). If you call yourself a music fan, you owe it to yourself to see a show here. Warning: if you are a bit claustrophobic, you probably don't want to stand in front during sold out shows. It can get really crowded. The ceilings are low since it is a basement. The flow of fresh air/oxygen isn't very good near the stage. I've had to leave my prime spot up front a couple times before because I was feeling too lightheaded. It was definitely worth it though!
