Robert M. is right, but I too am going to add one more review to this.  Not for the sake of it, but because of my goal to review everywhere that I go. One of my pals, also named Robert M. insisted that I HAD to try out this place.  Imma send him an invoice. I went today when it was pretty dead - every other time I've gone, there was a long wait and I just wasn't gonna do it.  I sat at the bar and Nick was great.  I needed clarification on the french fries - I NEED them to be nice & crispy in order for me to appreciatte them.  Hand-cut always says thick, potato wedgy to me and I just don't do that - I ended up opting for the sweet potato tots instead.  They were alright... I'm always a fan of a place that has ginger ale on tap, so that was the one plus to the equation. I got the shrimp burger.  I should have known when Nick insisted that I not consider having the Tabasco seasoning removed from the burger that I should have opted for something simpler, but I'm just a fool for some seafood.  I really hate spicy and was a little annoyed that he insisted that it was needed for the flavor.  It comes with an old bay mayo and a deep fried ?lemon wedge?.  Yucky.  It had NO flavor.  If it were not for the old bay mayo, most likely I would not have been able to eat the dry, tasteless thing.  Probably could have used some sauteed mushrooms or bacon to improve it. I did order the wedge salad.  I was a lot hungrier than I thought and wasn't sure how long it would be on my good.  I've had wedges at many places, but this one annoyed me.  It was cut into a quarter instead of being cut lengthwise so that you didn't have the HUGE chunk of lettuce to stuff in your mouth.  The bleu cheese was tasty Rob M. - I'm not going back...  I wanted to try your KK shake, but decided to leave well enough alone!

I have visited National Mechanics a few times; I wanted to be sure that it deserved this rating since it seems to be a sacred cow among rateclubsers. I like the space quite a bit, in its former lives the building was a bank and a church. Even the bathrooms are interesting, sinks in particular are very unique. In general, the crowd is comprised of locals. But occasionally you'll get some of the "My New Haircut" crowd drinkin' their Jager Bombs or whatever. The draft beer menu consists of classics, there is usually something for everyone. So, of course, nothing really piqued my interest last time. I ended up with a bottled porter that was quite yummy, but I really wanted a (non-Guinness) stout. I had a veggie burger, which I had tried in the past and enjoyed. It tasted a bit carrot-heavy that evening, but still one of the best I've had. A note about these veggie burgers, they are not the kind that try (and pretty much always fail) to be beef. They are made up of undisguised grains and vegetables, which I appreciate. The fries, however, tasted frozen. Because of this, I don't think they're worth $9, but I'd gladly pay the happy hour price. Service usually leaves something to be desired. Our bartender was kind of terrible on my most recent visit, spilling and spraying all over (including on my out-of-town guest). I've been pretty underwhelmed by the DJ's and burlesque show as well. Next time I'll try it for brunch.

OH.............NO. NO.NO.NONONONONONOON. JUST NO! we parked on Vine and saved about $25 for parking (Thank god). walked around the corner and saw the crowd in line....i just wanted to cry. there were school busses parked in front of this place picking up 100 drunk 18 yr olds. what a nightmare. then we walk inside and every girl wantws to fight every girl. only 2 stalls work in the restroom.. the dj's played the same some over and over and over again. the crowd was a joke. i left within 30 minutes. 25 spent in line to go pee. if we didn't have a friend celebrating her bday here there is no way in hell i'd ever step in here... 1 star because the place has potential. 0 stars to the crowd.
