by Dennis T. on Not a huge fan. We got there late, they tried to charge us $35 bucks! WTF? We got it down to $15. Spent most of our time upstairs in the main room. The crowd was whatever. They were spinning electro upstairs. We spent the later part of the night downstairs where they were spinning hip hop. Big venue, very spacious. Not a bad place to catch a show. Just not a fan of the staff. They were rude.
by Chelsea P. on Never in the course of five minutes have I met one angel investor, four Haas business school graduate students and one Harvard MBA student. It's only ironic that everyone tried to come off as so affluent, however there was no cover, AT ALL, that night. Can you say, POSERS?! Vessel was everything I heard it would be; "$30k-millionaires". A wannabe high profile spot full of a bunch of phonies. The crowd was mixed with men in suits and others in sneakers and sweats break dancing and a handful of scantily clad attractive women and lots of hurt ones too, stumbling and clumsily dancing around. I'm not saying that all that merits this three. It's just funny how the rumors and stories about Vessel from other friends quickly came to fruition during my first visit. The bouncers made me check in my camera at the coat check, thankfully it was free, but promoters and photographers beware! They didn't have a ticket for me to take guaranteeing I could get the camera back later but the man at the desk assured me that he personally would be there to return it to me. There seemed to be more bouncers than were necessary. And, I'm still unsure how I felt about the co-ed bathroom area. Maybe that's why they need all the beefcakes on duty? It just seemed like overkill for a Thursday. I must add, I loved the space, and I LOVE Andy Caldwell, and he now does a monthly party here. Hubba hubba. Vessel is subterranean and it had great circulation until the crowd begun to flood in around 11:30. The bartender with the pulled back hair at the far end of the bar makes a mean kamikaze! The floor space is dominated by huge VIP tables, but it was a decent place to dance and hang out if you can tolerate crowds (this was a Thursday, mind you). Vessel tries real hard to bridge the gap between a place for happy hour and after dinner drinks, by their free cover most of the time, 2 for 1 drink specials and open Svedka vodka tastings Wednesdays, with a chic nightclub that just attracts the exact opposite crowd.
by Jared Schiltz on If you've never eaten at a drive-in, obviously Varsity is the place to go. Apparently it is the largest drive-through in the world and is quite an experience. My bf and I were a little nervous, to be quite honest. We didn't quite understand the 'rules' of drive-ins, but I guess we figured it out! Don't count on going for a great satisfying meal. It is quick, dirty and greasy. I ordered the chicken sandwich - don't bother. My bf ordered a double cheeseburger - eh so so. Worth the trip was the frosted orange drink and the onion rings. Fries were a bit reminiscent of In-N-Out fries, but def not as good. Highly recommended if you're in ATL!
