Went here for dinner and a show a few days before Christmas to celebrate my partner's birthday. Had reservations for eight people at 5:30pm. Didn't have to wait long for our table, and the wait staff was quite friendly and accommodating. The place wasn't that full when we arrived, but soon grew packed with patrons. The menu style is family style; the chef encourages everyone to share. Best part is that the sushi rolls are cut up into eight pieces (one for each member of our party)! The food was very good, and the prices for the standard sushi rolls were reasonable. However, the cost of the fancy rolls and many of the meat items were a bit too high in relation to the quantity and quality of the food. Only two of us had plans to watch the live show after dinner. Our waitress had reserved a couple of seats for us after I showed her our concert tickets at the beginning of the meal. We went to the concert area after dinner and were shown to our seats. They were in the balcony area, and there was already a couple seated at the small cocktail table. There were two seats behind them. The Yoshi's escort asked one of them to sit closer to his date so that at least one of us could sit closer to the rail and have a good view of the show. I looked to my right and saw several empty cocktail tables. Why did we have to sit all crowded up with these people when there were available seats just 15 meters away??? Show was decent, though not really a jazz band; they were more bluegrass/folksy; they sounded great and were entertaining, but not really my cup of tea. We would probably come back someday to experience some live jazz music. Probably won't eat at the restaurant again because the prices were a bit too high, especially with Japantown just two blocks away.

Hmmm... Royale... where do I begin? Their go-go dancers are always dressed in some ridiculous costume on Saturday nights, but I'll admit, they definitely put on a show and are interesting to watch. They have people walking around the club dressed as bear mascots and other crazy things, so at times I feel like I'm in a circus. The music is...ehh. It depends on who's spinning that night. They do play a variety of music, probably to appease all the different types of people in the crowd (music interchanges from rock, reggae, to hip hop). The crowd is...I don't even know how to describe them. There's guidos, there's thugs, there's creepy dudes, there's Asians, there's obnoxious frat boys...you name it, they got it. I can't tell if this mixed crowd is a good or bad thing. The drinks are WAY expensive ($10+ per drink), but they're not even that good. It's an experience every time I go though. The club is pretty spacious, so there's definitely room to move around as you please. Another up side of this club is that it's free before midnight for ladies, and sometimes depending on who you may know, the girl at the front (who's my friend) hooks me up with comp tickets for my guy friends. Guys on guestlist usually pay $15 while regular admission is $20! -_- This club is one of the more decent ones in Boston... but it's still average.

The service and quality of food was simply poor! RATING ZERO!!! I was with a party of 7 on a recently Sunday for dinner and we were the only folks there for the first hour and a half. (this should have been our first warning) Later a few other couples showed up. When I arrived with my better half, we were instructed to have a seat at the "lounge" area, next to the bar. While walking to a table my gal slipped on something and almost fell flat on her face. Good thing she was holding onto my arm. Apparently, according to the waiter, there was bacon grease on the floor that they forgot to clean up from brunch earlier that day. It get's worse. Once the folks in our party all arrived, the waiter took our orders. Now bare in mind, we are still the only people in this place, but for reasons unknown, they took forever to serve our soup's and salads. The bread was dry and stale. When they finally got around to serving us, only 6 of the 7 got served. Yep, you guessed it, they forgot my salad! After waiting another 5+ mins., I called this oversight to the waiter's attention who totally forgot about my salad. He bought me a very sad, tasteless tasting Cesar salad. (Another bad omen, but, the croutons were OK). Next, they served main entrée's. OK, somebody in this place doesn't like me. Everyone, after waiting an unusually long time (only two other couples and us are now in this place) was served their dinners except me. Another 10 mins goes by, everyone is almost done with their dinner when my salmon dinner finally arrives! The fish was over cooked, with very heavy black grill marks on both sides; the pasta cooked wrong, too chewy and the calamari under cooked. What a waste of potentially a good meal. Oh, and get this, one of my guests had ordered the Jumbo Shrimp and Crab Legs off the Starter section. While the shrimp was OK, the crab legs were very foul smelling, and certainly not eatable!!!! For which the chef confirmed and apologized... What are these people thinking? The on duty manager offered to take off the cost of the Shrimp and crab legs dish, plus $20.00 off the over $200.00 bill, but allowed his waiter to add a 20% gratuity? All in all, we had one of the worst times and worst foods I can remember at an "upper end" Glendale restaurant. Sadly, I cannot recommend Minx to anyone. So, as I'm writing my review, I'm also sending a letter to the General Manager of Minx and/or the owners.
