I give this place one star since it's near my house. I've been there twice and neither time was pleasant. My husband and I and his out of town cousin were asked to meet another couple, last night, at ESSR. Our waitress asked us for our drink orders so I asked what kind of bar red wine did they have so I could get and idea of what quality of reds they were stocking. Our waitress put her hand on her hip and said "..oh you want the CHEAPEST wine...". The service deteriorated from there. She was slow in serving us, suggested a horrible cocktail for our out of town guest, then acted pissed when our guest said no thanks to a second, she also never bussed our table - which wasn't really a table, but a skinny piece of wood, so we ended up having to put things on the floor to have room to eat the appetizers we'd ordered. It's really a shame when one waitress's attitude can make everyone at the table feel as though she's doing us all a favor to wait on us and thus ensuring none of us want to go back to the ESSR, ever. We would have left after the first rude crack she made, but we were with others and didn't want to be rude ourselves - maybe some training on what makes a good wait person should be a requirement before working as one.

I can sum this entire place up in one word. Really. From the staff, drinks, music, venue all the way down to the "we're like that cool hole in the wall club you went to in Prague during your post-college backpacking trip to find yourself over in Europe" vibe. Fail. One star for the "generic bouncer #1" wearing a tuxedo and a leather overcoat. hahaha!

Went for a co-worker's retirement lunch. We had a large group of people, and the staff were very accommodating to our needs. They separated the checks, and the service was very timely for having such a large gathering. I ordered the Sushi and Pad Thai lunch combo which came with a choice of soup (I had the Coconut), a salad, four california roll pieces, 3 nigiri and a large serving of Pad Thai. All of that for $12 which I considered a bargain. The presentation was lovely, and I enjoyed the sushi very much, however I felt like I can get better Pad Thai at Doc Chey's (granted it wasn't the focus of the meal - but I was a bit disappointed). I also wasn't overwhelmed by the Coconut soup, and next time I'll probably stick with the standard Miso. Overall I thought it was a great place to hit for lunch (the restaurant was fairly empty - which unfortunately is probably a testament to the fact that people don't know about it rather than the quality of the food/service) Overall if you work somewhere in the vicinity I'd highly recommend Rain for a lunch outing.
