At 10:30pm, with 3 bar tenders, this place should be dishing out drinks like clockwork...but they're not. We stood at one end of the bar for 5 minutes- while one bartender danced by herself, another bartender walked up and down picking up empties and the third bartender never turned away from the computer! Seriously? The service was horrible- the poor bar back kept looking at us, like "I'm sorry" but he didn't alert any of the "busy" bartenders that we needed service. We even held out our cash and tried to wave one of the women down....didn't work. Then another girl came and stood next to us, the male bartender turned around and served her! Good thing I arrived before the cover or I might have made a scene.

Cielo is top notch. Its not too big but still great. Cain has a lot to learn from this place. Cain and Cielo area about the same size, but Cielo is 10x better than Cain, they're not even in the same league. There's a sunken in dance floor, with the DJ booth overlooking the crowd, as well as an outdoor area. The bouncers were really nice, but im sure its a different story when there's a bigger crowd and longer line. Overall: One of my favorites. Cielo is why the little west 12th street area is so much better than the 27th street area. Pro's: Very cool interior, patio area, chill bouncers Con's: I cant really think of any... I ended up going to Cielo because i couldn't get into Tenjune. Thanks to Tenjune's super tough door, i found, in my opinion, one of the best places in NY.

Very good ethiopian food. I've had the tibs wat entree as well as the sampler for two, and not been disappointed. The veggie dishes in the sampler outdid the meat, by a good margin - especially the greens and the split peas, IMO. Last time I went was a busy Saturday. The band was ok, not great, I guess since it was Saturday they brought in some crowd-pleasing act that crossed over into some other genres besides jazz. I'm no purist, but some of it was just cheese. I guess it was like when I dj'd, your lowest common denominator dj's always got the best weekend gigs, whereas us music snobs had all the tuesday wednesday and thursday bookings we wanted =( Also, there was hellof cattiness amongst the waitresses and the bartender, who I believe is new but also extremely nice and just happens to be extremely hot. It appeared the one waitress had tourette's, but she seemed good at her job (she waited on me before), just bitchy toward her co-workers. Definitely some characters that one night. There was a crazy dude off the street who was wasted and did the start-shit-with-you and also the let's-be-best-friends thing; the weed-smoking door man who was nice and mellow but then wanted to beat down the crazy guy; the guest trumpet player who walked on and off set whenever he damn felt like it; and aforementioned wait staff histrionics. Will definitely repeat!
