So, it was my first time going out in awhile. I've been in LA for several months now and I think last night was my first real time actually going out and deciding that I was going to party. Went out with my boy who just moved out here from Vegas. We parked our car somewhere on Cahuenga and just walked around looking for something appealing. We stopped by Ecco and they had a $20 cover charge for what looked like a private party with some boring people. PASS. Stopped by a couple other places that didnt look that good then rolled on up to My Studio. The people in line didn't look too bad and the music that we heard when the doors opened was knockin so we decided to wait in line. For the amount of people they let by us who were on "The List", entry into the club probably took like 30 mins. NO COVER CHARGE and it was paaaaacked. Door guys weren't a problem, the people in there looked good and they all seemed to want to have fun, and the drinks were strong! Definitely recommend it to someone trying to have a good time. We went on Thursday so not sure if the day of the week makes it any better.

i'm tremendously surprised to be giving this place any more than 2 stars. i went to the boston "matzoball" (how jewy am i, right?) on christmas eve, and i expected this to be a massive meat market with terrible music and lame attendees. the only reason i went was cuz i scored free tix thru rateclubs (thanks leighann!!!), but i gotta say i was pretty shocked to find that i had an awesome time! the people wound up being pretty cool and not at all skeevy (i even set my purse down at my own risk on the stage so i could dance, and tho i kept my eye on it, i was still impressed to find no drinks spilled on it/no items stolen). admittedly since i was getting over bronchitis and preparing for a morning flight i decided not to drink, which is an important part of any bar, so i can't really comment on the drinks. what impressed me the most was that the music was surprisingly really good - mixed pretty artfully. once i was up dancing, i didn't sit down - i was on the dance floor until it was time to catch the t home. minus a star for the worst coat check line ever. they had just one dude working it, and for us t-bound folks, i had to get in line at 11:45 to make it out of there by 12:05. ridiculous! could it be? may i just go to the next major jewish event? i think the roxy is much to thank for this if i do...

I went to a "work" dinner at Ecco last night and everything was amazing as usual. Immediately visited the bar for libations, where I got the Queen Bee Martini with gin and elderflower. This cocktail has apparently won national awards, and I'm not surprised. It was divine. We were having a good time so we just ate at the bar and shared everything. Amongst my fav's were the meat/cheese boards as usual, the grilled squid, and the meatballs with saffron. The fried goat cheese balls with honey are one of their sig dishes, which everyone loved, except me. I couldn't bring myself to try them since there was other good stuff that won't give you a premature heart attack. The restaurant is well-kept and still looks new, the service is great and knowledgable. Their wine list is my fav in the city, as it gives great descriptions of all the wines, so I feel comfortable trying something new without feeling like I may be stuck with something I wont like.
