This is not a review of the restaurant, but rather the party kept downstairs. The drinks are grossly overpriced and after one cosmo I became nauseous and ill. Yes, I am well aware of the danger in ordering a drink without specifying top shelf liquor. However, I have never had such a lousy reaction to house liquor, particularly at that price point. Music was decent, it gets more crowded as the night wears on, but I can't help but feel cheated by my experience with the bar.

This is a hard one for me to review.... I so wanted to like this place. The name of the place is Sambuca JAZZ CAFE! Why in the heck is there a R&B/Funk band playing on a FRIDAY night... They were absolutely horrible... New South Players or something like that. We got up and went outside to get away from the NOISE! Guys these people didn't know the words to the songs and were making them up as they were playing. BAD! On a positive note the place is a casual cool jazzy quaint place. Maybe it was just a bad night...We didn't eat so I can't comment on the food but they made a great coffee :-) Sambuca please focus on what you advertise! You have the potential to be GREAT!

I'm walking in with a couple friends and the door guy knows one of the people in my group and welcomes him in. As I'm passing by the very same door guy stops me and starts giving me crap about wearing a hoodie. He tells me I have to take it off to go inside, then when I do take off my jacket he makes another comment about my black t-shirt. All the more amusing, was that the door guy had just welcomed in my friend who was wearing a near identical hoodie! I'd understand if I was coming in from a basketball game wearing Russell Athletics, but in case you missed the trend hoodies are in fashion... yes even Marc Jacobs sells them. The lady who appeared to be running the house found out I was part of Rateclub staff and took my visit as an opportunity to complain about how Rateclubers have been giving her a hard time about the "dress code". Well for good f-ing reason. Sorry folks I'm not a deadbeat and you shouldn't discriminate against people who don't adhere to your convoluted standard. I thought San Francisco was an open and tolerant place, I guess some unseemly backwaters still exist.
