ay bay bay Most of my friends hate this place but at least the music is current and the place is large. Granted it's in a horrible neighborhood and you have some people trying to act way too hard in here, but I've still had a lot of good times. Prepare to be hassled by bums on the way in. Three stars but +1 for being one of the few places in SF open past 2 am.

The bouncer was not a prick, so there's a plus before we even got in the door. It's a small bar, but still a place to be. I went for the bartenders' competition event. Employees: very friendly, helpful, good humored. Crowd: beautiful, but not bitchy. Entertaining, good conversation, crowded, but not pushy Drinks: delish...and like the air we breathe, free. Music: enough and not too loud Results: Like a blockbuster movie rental, I'll be returning on a typical night to see if my outlook on the bar holds true.

This review is long overdue. I come off as a food snob to my sister so when I visited her in NYC she told me she made reservations at Tao. I said cool. But she continued to tell me about the accolades it has received and that Tom Cruise hung out their a couple of times. I think Tom Cruise is a douche so I just told her I am excited to go and their is no need to sell me on it further. It has a relaxing Zen-Buddhist decor mixed with a NYC bustle. The service is fantastic. Young and friendly but patient and knowledgeable. I insist that you get the sea bass as it will melt in your mouth. Also, order the thinly sliced Kobe beef which is served with hot stones for which you cook it on. This is a place which is good for a date, family (kids grown up) or a group of friends if you have any.
