by Leigha Keomany on WHO could possibly not like the KING COLE BAR? I am a San Franciscan and mark this as my favorite bar in all of NYC. It is certainly the most posh bar there is and seeing people dressed well, coiffed well and impeccably dressed gentlemen of all ages is a true pleasure. In the subtle richness of the bar with its dark woods, luscious fabrics and comfortable furnishings is an oasis in a chaotic and brash city that I LOVE. SETTLING INTO A CHAIR AND BEING WAITED UPON BY A TUX ATTIRED MAN is like being in a fabulous movie. Sure the cocktails are pricey but it is all worth it. The first truly expensive burger I have ever eaten was here and I was so impressed that I got a menu with Old King Cole and had it framed for my kitchen. The King Cole Burger was truly the best I'd ever eaten and it was $23.00 and that was about 10 years ago. It was so beautifully plated and the accoutrements were so fresh and delicious, plus the french fries were incredible. Today that same burger is only $28.00. In 2006 I had the DB Moderne Foie Gras Burger and it was $32.00 and a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT, I had to return it because it was so bad. The King still gets my vote. One thing for sure is: DRESS LIKE A LADY in A BEAUTIFUL DRESS MEN COME SPIFFED UP IN YOUR BEST SUIT & TIE with A CRISP SHIRT and Well Polished Shoes LOOKING BEAUTIFUL AND HANDSOME Adds to The EXPERIENCE AND YOU'LL APPRECIATE HO W GREAT THE EXPERIENCE IS!
by Tierra Blashak on Review is for the music space only (regardless--this would have only been a 1 star for the nightclub as well). It is really unfortunate b/c I did want to give Webster a chance so many many times.. I last saw Broken Social Scene here, and my anticipation was dampened by the fact that they were booked here. Despite garnering talents such as BSS and fairly known bands, what hinders Webster from ever legitimizing itself as a music venue is that it basically lacks a good sound system. It is quite sad especially since WH is steeped in so much history. It is always a disappointment when bands I like are booked here. The acoustics range from fair (middle of the room) to horrible (anywhere veering from the center point). This is especially the case when you are right smack in front of the stage (where I usually like to be) and the speakers elude your ears. Consequently, I haven't been here in the past year. Perhaps there have been improvements? Please let me know if this is the case, although I wouldn't bank on it :T
by Kate P. on For me, going out for a night of dancing means going to Middlesex. No disco ball, no flashing lights, no idiots teetering on f me pumps or guys looking to give you a roofie colada (for the most part). Just an awesome place to have some fun with friends and shake a tailfeather to some really amazing local DJs who know we want to hear something besides Top 40.
