I went there for my 4th time last week. The atmosphere is as impressive as ever, ambiance was also impressive as ever. The occasion was to meet new friends and a Friday night out. It fulfilled it's purpose in terms of location, food and atmosphere, however the wait for a table leaves little to be desired.

Oslo is a nice restaurant built in the heart of Detroit very close to the baseball field and just next to the Opera Center. After hearing lot of positive reviews from our hotel's front desk staff i took my colleagues to dine there on a friday evening. The place was semi - packed which was surprising for a friday evening and also considering the fact that there was a baseball game going on. The hostess was busy sitting at the bar and chatting with one of the guest - so we had to wave our hand to get her attention. After getting seated we decided to order a sushi roll and then share among ourselves a thai curry, fried rice and one of the house specials. The server seemed very nice and friendly at first but his service detoriated after that. First he bought in the fried rice and then almost after 7 - 8 minutes he got the curry and the house special. We almost finished our meal when my colleague told the server that we dint want the rolls anymore because we were almost done with dinner. Instead of being apologetic he kind of became adamant and said he is going to get the sushi rolls right away and we had to have them because we had ordered it!!!!! He also forgot the ice tea which she had ordered. Overall the service was really poor which is a surprise for a downtown restaurant and also for a not so packed one. Somehow it felt that the employees loved being by the bar more rather then taking care of their tables. The food on the other hand was really good which is why i rated it with 3 stars.. Everything was properly cooked and the house special and the spices were just perfect. There were condiments and hot sauce on the table which enhanced the flavors of the dishes. The sushi roll was really good too and we seriously regretted the fact that we dint get it as our first course. Although the service really sucked both my colleagues and me were of the impression that we would give them a second chance although there are a bunch of thai and sushi places in downtown detroit. Maybe the service would just be better the next time.

If you're willing to brave Atlantic Station, go for Rosa Mexiano. The food is good, but in the evening and on the weekend, the wait has been crazy-long when I've tried to stop by. During off hours (late lunch), it's great. Others have mentioned the guacamole and the pomegranate margaritas. Seriously, they're both so, so very good. It's still the American take on Mexican food, but it's better than my childhood memories of Chi-Chi's and more refined than most of the taquerias I tend to prefer. And yes, it's on the pricier side. Rosa Mexicano is great, though, before or after a movie, or as a break from an afternoon shopping around Atlantic Station.
