To be frank, all nightclubs are the same. You have to expect it and it won't bother you so much. You'll always be pushed by club goer's. Drinks will always be weak and expensive. Drinks will always be spilled on you. So when I read the reviews on rateclubs before going to Mansion, I took it with a grain of salt. Mansion was pretty kick a**. The bouncer who greeted us was a teddy bear. He was so sweet and personable. We actually had a normal conversation before entering the club. He wasn't the typical meat head holding a clip board. We told him it was our friends birthday and he comp'd him admission. Pretty cool in my book. I didn't go into the club cranky and pissed off. Cover was $25 for men and women. Expensive? Hell yeah. But at least it was the same for both genders. Upon entering, we were floored. The place looks a lot smaller on the outside, but it's pretty expansive with numerous rooms to hang out in. In the main area, the DJ knew what was up. He played awesome songs that had everyone doin' a little bump and griiiiind. Now... for the drinks. Like I mentioned above, I expect drinks to be weak sauce at a club. That's what pre-gaming is for. BUT when drinks are THAT weak, do NOT charge me $25 for a vodka soda and a Corona. I spent half that on my magnum of Belvedere that we brought to Miami! Also, please do not tell me that it's a $50 minimum if you want to use your credit card. That's a darn lie. The overall minimum for merchants is $10. I believe they do this to encourage paying in cash so they don't get taxed on tips. Whatever. I shrugged it off and went back to dancing. Needless to say, we didn't stay all night (otherwise we'd be broke), but we had a good time!!! All in all, I'd definitely hang at Mansion again.

I really, really wanted to like Gloria's. Unfortunately, I was let down from the moment I walked in. I feel like everything about the restaurant is juuust a little "off." Initially we were greeted by the hostes which didn't actually turn out to be the hostess. She seemed to be unable to leave her perch so we waited for a few minutes until a manager came to seat us. He was unfriendly and just made an assumption that we wanted to sit inside. Once we were finally seated we were not acknowledged for about 5-8 minutes. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. He suggested the guacamole - which was very good. The black bean dip was also excellent. Don't get excited... everything was about to fall victim to mediocracy REALLY quickly. The drinks were neither strong nor delicious and on Saturday (non-happy hour day) they were quite expensive. Since we were brunching, I ordered a fajita chicken omelet. It took foooorrrreeever to arrive and was lukewarm and VERY greasy. I realize I'm not ordering health food here but the bottom of my plate should not have been glazed with cholesterol. The chicken was fatty and did not seem to be high quality and the eggs were over cooked. It was a giant plate of disappointment. The good - Finally mexican/latin food @ the domain Relatively easy to park (for the domain) Great patio Salsa dancing on Saturday night The bad - Seemingly poor management Questionable food quality The "all day happy hour" prices are really not that great Most importantly folks, it FEELS like a chain. Chain restaurants are inevitably becoming more present in Austin (especially suburban Austin) but at least the others in the area (Kona, M&S, North, etc) maintain some kind of non-corporate vibes. Sorry but I don't think Gloria's will last too long.

AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! !!!!!!! What a piece of work this place is. Talk about sceneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee e. 40 yr old men trying to be cool yet being so rude I thought THEY were in HIGHSCHOOL!!! Insanely priced drinks Attitude central Men looking you up and down in a slimey way Everyone trying oh so hard to look good Please!!!  This place is disgusting!  The only thing good was my drink and my second round was bought buy 2 guys....fine with me!!....their idea of making conversation was "Uhhh so uh what do you do?  Yeah where you from?  Yeah uh nice nice nice."  They owed me a drink after that whole ordeal. There is so much more detail I would love to write about my experience here but it is not worth it. This place is for those of you who have nothing better to do then try and look cool.....lameos.
