I'm surprised it took me so long to make it to Zahav but I FINALLY MADE IT on Friday for Restaurant Week. My she-date (aka, Stephen S.'s rateclubsless fiance) who usually eats meat accompanied me on a vegetarian journey through their RW menu. We started off with the two must-trys: the salatim and hummus with laffa. The salatim was impressive - although the eight portions of various salads are small, it was a pretty filling appetizer. I sampled everything and enjoyed the wide array of flavors and textures. The dates were the bomb and the tabbouleh was some of the best. Why is it when I try to cook with parsley it tastes like ass but they make a light, seemingly simple tabbouleh and it tastes like a totally different leaf? WTFFF my life. But this is probably because I do not cook at Zahav. Anyways, it was good. The laffa was served steaming hot and the hummous was tasty but did not revolutionize the way I see hummous. Next time, I'll go for the highly-recommended Turkish hummous blend. In short, here's what we wound up with for the remainder of our meal: haloumi, fried cauliflower, artichoke halves, smoked salmon, pumpkin, eggplant, almond semifreddo and poached pineapple. All were delicious, the fried cauliflower being the obvious stand out among the smallest plates. The eggplant tasted unlike any eggplant either of us had ever had. It was rich and buttery, which wwas balanced nicely by the barley beneath. The almond semifreddo, topped with a crispy, snappy disc of chocolate was my dessert of choice. By the time dessert arrived, I was relieved as I filled up QUICK. I'd love to come back and try their a la carte menu as soon as possible but I still think I got a fairly complete scope of what they have to offer via their RW menu. The service was basic and a little hurried, as it usually is during RW, but the attention paid by those attending to our table other than our hustling server was great. The general ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant is busy and bustling without being blinding and loud. I love it here, can't wait to return.

The reason why this place does well, e.g. everyone loves it, has a high rating, is because it is on a boat. Simple as that. The idea of drinking beer on the docks or bobbing in the gentle Hudson waters is enough to make any NYer a fan of this one of a kind bar. This bar, open to the elements, make for a great change of scene. It has a bar on the dock and a couple of bars on the boat. If you don't want to wait forever at the larger bar on the dock, go in the boat, go down one level on the rear and there is a "window bar." Essentially it is just one guy there and he sells beer. On the same level are restrooms. Beware of these restrooms, toilet paper is apparently a rare commodity at sea. There are only two stalls. Apparently, in the men's restroom, the urinals break and pee drips to the floor every time someone flushes. Yuck. And sometimes it smells like.. I won't lie... poop! So brace yourself, and don't wear flip flops down there.

Meh... Nice, spacious venue. +1 Not a huge bubbly fan. +/-0. Got kicked out of their uber comfortable chairs because it was reserved but for party coming in... "I got here first!" -1 I've had better.
