I was intrigued to try Zahav, after attending a wine tasting class at Tria, where the Executive Chef taught a wine class, where the wino was paired with tasty morsels from his resturant. So we ventured here during restaurant week hoping that the food was a great as the samples we had devoured at the class. We started with some wine at the bar while waiting for our table and ending up having dinner there. The bartenders were very friendly, despite the fact that it was rather busy, they took time to walk us through the menu and entertain our questions, and there were many. We started out with the hummus- tehina and laffa bread, (I am by no means a hummus expert, but it was favorful, some of the best, I've ever had!) then to the Salatim (a selection of 8 salad tastings) followed by the crispy haloumi (sheep's milk cheese) one of my favorites! I highly recommend the hanger steak and lamb sausage, we even tried the duck hearts which weren't horrific as it sounds. The ground lamb is also a nice choice. Do not skip dessert, two words, almond semifreddo!! The best deal is definately the prixe fix menu, it will allow you to sample a variety of Zahav's wonderful dishes. Even though the portions are small, they are packed with great culinary skill! There is also a kitchen bar, where you can have dinner or drinkings while, peering into the kitchen watching the chefs work their magic, which is an interesting twist to the usual dinner out. I have been back several times and I have never been disappointed, the food, wine, and service make a wonderful dining experience, plus the restaurant is perched on top of the hill by the society hill towers, and makes for a nice view of the cobblestone streets. Chef Michael even swung by our table to see how we were doing on one visit. I believe there was a whole roasted lamb I spied, that will be on the agenda that next time we visit!!

Cool little place. They play great music and the drinks are well made and inexpensive for this town. Everyone comes to dance and makes for a fun time. Because of its small size, it gets crowded in a hurry.

IGNORE MY RATING -- i just wanted to do some info sharing to let gluten free people that this place is relatively safe compared to others: Statement from Rosa Mexicano *the chips are gluten free and fried only with gf corn items *the rice is gluten free as are the black beans we serve *the condiment salsas served with the guacamole are gluten free as are all the enchilada sauces *the seasonings in the meats are gluten free *the mole sauce is NOT gluten free *the flan we currently offer is NOT gluten free Our menu is quite gluten free friendly and our servers are trained to know our menu inside and out. Whenever a server is unsure about an item they know to speak with the Executive Chef or the Executive Sous Chef to discuss the specific ingredients.
