Was here this past weekend to see SF Sketchfest (NPH, squeel!) We had purchased the tickets that included a dining voucher, so that we could grab food inside the restaurant before the show started. When we arrived at the restaurant, we we greeted quite nicely and immediately escorted to our seats (we had reservations). When we were presented with the menus, there was anotation on it that all food was served 'family style." Great! So my BF and I ordered three dishes to share (cripsy brussel sprouts, lamb chops, and a rainbow roll). The food was great. The brussel sprouts were served with a cauliflower puree, and they complimented each other nicely. The lamp chops were cooked perfectly and the rainbow roll featured incredibly fresh fish. The Jazz Club is also a great venue to see a show. It feels intimate, even though it's pretty big. Although, I couldn't believe how short the show was. It was just 1 hour long! Seriously, I could have used a ton more NPH time. Sigh. What's up with that? So, why the three stars then? Well, here we go-- Minus one star for our server, who was incredibly patronizing and awkward. Minus another star for the false 'family style' portions. for the price you're paying and what they state on the menu, you would definitely expect more food. for example, the brussel sprouts portion was about 1/4 of a trader joe's bag of brussel sprouts. So, Yoshi's, will I be back? Possibly. Your food/drink is NOT worth the $$$ price tag to me. But, if you keep hosting NPH, I will make an exception. I just won't be eating there.

Came across this place during the Fillmore Festival, so thought we'd drop in on a Saturday. There was no cover & a live band was jamming! The drinks were reasonable, and waitress was friendly. Spacious atmosphere with lots of seating & up close proximity to live band. Patrons were down to earth, not shy, & everyone was grooving to the music. I recognized one of the musicians, as he played at Yoffi's Bistro on Chestnut. He's awesome & gets the crowd going. The waitress suggested there was another jazz club across the street by the same the owner. We'll definitely have to check it out. This area is full of jazz clubs, with Yoshi's Fillmore right down the street. With these spots in mind, we'll always have somewhere to go on a Friday/Saturday w/ no cover charge.

111 Minna = 111 nights of Randomness. Extra stars for pulling off events that reach disparate segments of the San Francisco hipster population. Tres cool. But, man, the acoustics in there... too loud. A conversation you may have overheard at the gallery recently between two female friends (names have been changed to protect the innocent...): "ylime": HEY GIRL! JUST SO YOU KNOW, I'M STEALING THIS CHICK (points to 3rd, unidentified friend) AT SEVEN-ISH. "irim": WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY? YOU'RE STEALING HER SEVEN INCH?? DILDO?? WHAT?? "ylime": NO NO NO!! WE HAVE TO GO AT SEVEN!! "irim": OH! I THOUGHT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT SEX TOYS AND I WAS LIKE, 'OKAY, WOW... ' Yeah... too loud.
