by Sean P. on I loved the food!! I have been so disappointed in Mexican food since I moved here from San Diego a year ago...this hit the spot! It is the closest thing to what I consider "real" Mexican food and I grew up close to the border. Thank you Viva El Toro you will be seeing me again soon :) p.s. Try the pineapple infused tequila!! Yummy
by Marquis Mccroskey on XIV brings to mind a bootleg handbag; it has all the looks and cache of the real thing but lacks the quality and substance. This is a young Hollywood excuse for style and sophistication. While the ingredients and descriptions of the plates would all suggest a high-style epicurean adventure, the end result was consistently soft of texture and too-mild of flavor. The same could be said of the atmosphere; upon arriving the décor and lighting seem top notch, but eventually the illusion fails. To make the evening even more trying, the sparse, echoing interior forces loud conversation, which the ever-increasing volume of the music takes all the way to sore throat land. This does not seem to be a restaurant for people who actually eat in restaurants of the level it purports to be - what it does seem like is a loud, over-priced stumbling ground for the high-heeled and mini skirted and their un-tucked, blinged out pursuers. Whether they are nouveau riche or nouveau poseur-riche, the vibe matches the food and both are is as real as the YSL bag you can buy on Santee Alley. My "Needs Gordon Ramsey/Does Not Need Gordon Ramsey" rating scale faces some confusion on this one. The food and service (our waiter was pretty clueless!) need his help desperately, but the cash register seemed to be operating just fine!
by Jackie Clapper on Hands down the best bar in LA if you love good music, good vibes and cool crowds. Never too packed, no unnecessary lines and Hollywood door drama and no drunken brawls after midnite. Good thing about LIl Tem is that almost any night of the week, there will be good to great music, a decent crowd and good drinks. The bartenders are among the best, and are easy to get to know. Once you know them, you get good drinks, and even better service. Cover is never more than $10, and always, always worth it.
