by Amy C. on I gave one star but would have given zero if possible. I recently visited my sister in Studio City and we went out for a night of drinks and dancing. Aura was in the area and one of the people in our party had heard about it so we decided to check it out. Walking up to the door I had a completely open mind and was excited to visit a venue that offered dancing. But as soon as we got to the door (there were four of us, three girls and one guy) we were told by the bouncer that we could not come in because "it's blacks only tonight." Seriously?! My jaw dropped. I have never been more outraged or offended at a nightclub. Racism is completely heinous and unacceptable and I was shocked that it was so openly announced that we were not acceptable to enter the club because we were the wrong color skin. When we said this to the bouncer he tried to cover his tracks by making up some bulls*#$ reason, saying that WE would probably be uncomfortable because we weren't black. I would NEVER recommend this venue to anyone and will go out of my way to warn people about this place. I will probably also be making a call to the BBB to report the incident. I realize that an establishment has the right to not serve who they want but allowing racism to be the defining factor on whether or not a customer is served is unacceptable and (I'm not a lawyer so don't quote me on this) probably illegal (and if it isn't it should be). Please save yourself a wasted trip and don't visit this venue for any reason.
by Tiffany C. on awww you guys are too hard on 300. sunday nights at 300 are cool. yeah it does, kinda, have a club-like vibe to it. yeah, some of the chics are overexposed. yeah, bouncers at a bowling alley takes you aback a little. BUT, it's still a good time regardless! i would go fairly often when they started hosting the sunday night party and it was a real cool chill spot. once it became popular i.e, everybody and their momma (literally) started going, i stopped. i pop my head in occasionally every now & then. it's definitely a spot to check out if you want the club experience w/o the hassle of the club...
by Chery Zomer on This new lounge is tucked away in midtown and is perfect for an intimate date or a spot to relax after work. It's somewhat hard to find located on Piedmont between 9Th and 10Th underneath the Helmet Salon. I began to like the fact that it is off the beaten path because I felt like I found a gem that no one else knew about. Kat's Cafe is owned by a husband and wife and named after the wife Katarina her Husband Mike is responsible for the beautiful decor. Great staff great atmosphere. The staff has a way of making you feel at home as they remember your name throughout the visit. I think that is very remarkable seeing as how at times the places gets very packed. I went on Fridays where they have a happy hour called Martini Fridays. The martinis are great I'm in love with the "lady sings the blues" and better then that they are $5 from 5pm - 9pm. The Appetizers are $3 and i was pleasantly surprised that they were a good portion size (hence the discounted price). I'm not a crab leg fan but after I tried their crab legs i fell in love. The crowd is very professional and laid back. This is my new Friday spot after work!
