by Cora L. on Damn, I didn't even know this place was a restaurant. So this review is DEFINITELY for the bar/lounge at night! Mayes not only has an awesome selection of dance music mixed in with gangster rap, but they ALSO show you the music videos on flatscreen TVs!!! The line for the bathroom is never long, and for a bar with no cover or dresscode and reasonably priced drinks, this place is HUGE. It gets packed, and it also gets hot, but most importantly if you like to dance you'll have a blast. Sure there are times when it gets TOO crowded and the experience becomes unenjoyable, but as long as you're there on a normal night you'll have a lot of fun. The crowd is pretty diverse in there, but probably because it's on Polk street. Parking is a possibility, but never guaranteed. It's pretty easy to get a cab around there anyway though. The best times I've had on Polk street were here, because it's like going clubbing with great music, short lines, no cover, and no hassle. What bar can beat that?
by Sandy M. on The Orpheum is one of many old and beautiful theatre. When you are inside, you feel like you have been sent back in time. Another beauty is the Los Angeles Theatre also on Broadway. Check out "Last remaining Seats" coming soon! you visit several of these classics and watch an old movie and a presentation from the Conservancy President and star who is in some way connected to the movie.
by Oliver Akey on I came here b/c Park next door had a crazy line. The bouncer was really nice. Overall the service/promoters were cool. The decor was nice, music was good. There was a bellydancer that was fun to watch. :) Didn't go to the upstairs balcony but it seems like a good place to have a private party. The only thing I would change is that there is only one bar in the back, also where the bathroom is -so the whole back of the space gets really packed. It's mostly an Asian crowd. I wasn't feeling it, I like a mixed crowd. But it's a fun spot. :)
