by Shadi N. on GREAT VENUE for live music. The concert room/theatre area itself is large, well situated so almost everyone has a perfect view of the stage, good acoustics and pretty large. Im pretty sure they have a drink minimum, so you need to grab a drink or a bit to eat. Suprisingly the sushi is actually pretty good. I mean i was expecting like safeway/costco style boxed sushi, but no it was real freshly rolled very fresh and tastey sushi, dont expect anything fancy tho, it is a jazz club. The outside area, where the bar and restaurant are is also very nice, especially if ur not looking to pay for a ticket. You dont get to see a specific show, but they do have a live band on some nights. I've NEVER seen this area crowded, and its HUGE! All in all, i will definitely be back to go back for more shows, and i wont be stressed about going hungry!
by Geraldine K. on I recently swung by Ella on a Saturday night for a birthday party, and I was pretty surprised to find the crowd to be a non-LES bunch. The place was rocking with frat boys and sorority girls who looked like they could be from anywhere but the tri-state area. Reading others' reviews, I realize that the lower area is for the typical LES crowd, not the main floor. I was on the main floor towards the front corner of the bar. The bathroom line was unbearably long. I didn't feel like drinking, but no major loss: I could tell that drinks' prices were ridiculous. The music is loud enough to lose hearing, so it's super hard to have some sort of conversation. Really, I hate those non-club places where music is blasted for no reason, except to blast it. Ella falls into this category. Not my type of place, not my type of crowd, not my type of music. Just not returning a second time if I could help it.
by Star Kingshott on I remember having fun... I think. PROS: Good music, typical top 40s dance stuff, lots of different rooms (perfect for those with ADHD), and it's in the mission. CONS: The crowd was a bit bridge and tunnel and the DJ kept interrupting the music to talk (MR. DJ - IF YOU ARE READING THIS, YOU NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND PLAY THE MUSIC. NOBODY LIKES TO LISTEN TO YOUR VOICE AS MUCH AS YOU DO!!!). So, I really only took off one star for the stupid, loud mouth, narcissistic DJ. I wanted to stab myself in the foot the next morning just to distract the pain from my head, so... I guess you could say it was a successful evening of shenanigans. ****UPDATE***** KNOCKING OFF ANOTHER STAR. DJ Demetrius (?) is SOOOOO sucky. He fucked up multiple times, made us listen to him rap (sucked), and gave an infamous shout out to this review. WHOOHOOOO!!!! I think because I was sober last night, this place severely bit ass. The guys were like vultures, dumb vultures that don't get the hint. The dance floor is small and smells moldy (one fan in the whole place....ghetto). There was some major drama outside after last call... it was so damn entertaining. Highlight of the evening. Moral of the story, being sober at this place sux. The only thing that remained constant (drunk or not) is that Bruno's needs to hire a new DJ.
