Have been here three or four times for drinks and food. Has never been particularly impressive, but Sunday brunch this week was bad enough that I have to comment. Nice servers, nice drinks, no turkey burgers, cold fries, cold and icky omelet with unmelted cheese and a smokey FIRE in the building that worsened throughout the meal to top things off. The fire started early in our meal and we were assured it was nothing and the smoke would clear. It got worse througout the meal. We were asked to move into a different space, but it never cleared. By the time we were actually told that the reataurant was going to close and we should leave, the fire trucks were arriving. No discount. They did comp the fresh round of drinks that we had to leave on the table. Gee, thanks. Nice waiter, really bad food, smoke inhalation, no discount...........hmmmmmmmmm. Methinks we won't be going back.

I have never seen a more beautiful, well done nightclub/lounge than The Colony. I came here after being invited to the media/press opening for the club. They had tray passers from Katsuya and their signature drinks were delicious. The atmosphere though... wow. SBE pulled out all the stops. I was SO IMPRESSED. From the hammock draped over a small pool to the benches made to look like benches on a boat. The mosaic wall behind the inside bar... swinging chair made to look like a row boat... etc. They even had some DJ AM dunks for sale! If you haven't gone and are considering it, GO. It is stunning. I have not been on a regular night, so can't say much about its crowd. Obviously the even I was at was very classy and I wouldn't expect much less on a regular night. I hope they get an urban night soon!!

This place is definitely hit or miss. I've been there on nights and had an absolute blast (sometimes a guy has just gotta shake his groove thang) and I've been there on nights and wanted to leave almost immediately. I can't put my finger on the exact reason - could be the particular promoter for the night, or the DJ, or my mood, etc., etc. The location can be tough for some of my amigos that live in other parts of San Francisco, but the overall vibe and patrons are solid. The bartenders here can be a little cold and for some reason a few of them take FOREVER to make drinks. Like, long enough that it's actually worth mentioning. Gotta admit, though, I definitely miss PopScene. The original PopScene, that is.
