by Robert D. on Ahhh... The Dish. My kitchen away from home for so many years that it almost goes without saying just how much I love the food within these walls! The Latest Dish opened in 1997 and was an instant hit - the food was freshly prepared and served with a smile and a bit of sass to boot! The kitchen became famous for two things; incredible calamari and being open until 1:30 on weekends. Soon after, the upstairs was open as Fluid Nightclub and this little corner of the world became the epicenter for underground nightlife in Philadelphia. DJ icons like Jazzy Jeff, Josh Wink and ?uestlove began nights upstairs - and spent many a night pre-gaming it downstairs with dinner and drinks. The sounds that came through the walls became the pulse of the city and the restaurant was the place to be. Over time things change - however one thing that has remained strong is the quality of food and service you get at The Latest Dish. With the addition of a new head chef, The Dish has transformed what some thought was a stale, but good, menu - into an ever-changing texture of tastes. Along with a list of standard fare, be sure to check the special boards mounted throughout the space to see just what the chef has up his sleeve that night. One night you're traveling south of the border - the next is a trip to New England. Fascinating stuff indeed! A few staples stand out and must be tried - the grilled-caramelized tilapia with green rice, citrus marinated avocado and pinto beans in a tomato chili sauce truly melts in your mouth. Also, even if you're a carnivore, don't miss out on the tofu and miso meatballs; crispy fried tofu balls served on sweet black rice with grilled baby bok choy and a spicy/sweet sauce. It's like warm melted balls of cheese - amazing! Speaking of carnivores, I would be remiss not to mention a true staple of the house - the grilled filet mignon, which comes with white cheddar gratin, seared spinach, fried onion rings and a burgundy demi glace. Rich and heavenly. A nice mix of salads - my favorite is the spinach and arugula salad with toasted walnuts, manchego cheese, red peppers, capers and a sundried cherry vinaigrette. Desserts are hit or miss - but you can never go wrong with their house bread pudding - it's the perfect way to end the meal - it's like a pillow for your tastebuds! So - check out The Dish - - perhaps before you come to the next Sex Dwarf - Philly's nonstop new wave dance party; every first Friday @ Fluid. by Allison Z. on I am reluctantly giving Rosa Mexicana 3 stars--the food is good but the prices are outrageous. This is an NYC chain transplanted to Atlanta, but the management forgot to change their pricing structure. Most Atlantans can go to any Mexican restaurant on Buford Highway and get the same (or better) quality food for half the price. Our table of 6 (girls night out) started off with the table-side guacamole. It's almost a requirement. It was tasty of course and came with hard chips and soft tortillas to roll into "tacos"--that's what our server said, anyway. I got the pork tacos which are served fajita style; deconstructed into meat and sides on the plate. Yes, for $15.75 you too can make your own food. My girlfriends had a mix of offerings--two had enchiladas, one had the duck entree (which looked really good, actually) and one had a salad with tuna. If you're planning a special night out are an OTP'er, Rosa Mexicana is probably super enjoyable. If you're a local, go somewhere else to get just as delicious food.
by Donnell Visalli on I like the restaurant itself a lot. It's a huge combo of different American cuisines, Italian, Asian and sushi. They have an upstairs that's pretty chill for lounging and drinks. Nice spot to maybe dress up and mingle with friends at. The place is huge, so find a room to set your mood.
