Where to start...... This wasn't my first visit to Mango's but definitely my last after the fiasco that unsued on Monday June 21st. An unnamed person in our party was trashed and took a cab to Mango's. Upon arriving curbside he realized his wallet was missing. So he gave the cab driver his Iphone for collateral. Of course some ass in the bouncer/club group decided to intervene. The bouncer wound up with the cell phone while this person went to hotel next door to borrow $20 to pay $12 fare back and retrieve his phone. Knowing this person was young and drunk they "threatened to have him arrested"!! They (not sure if other was an actual cop or posing) took him across the street and threatened to beat his ass if he give them the security code for the Iphone and didn't leave without the Iphone. He left. Next morning he told me everything that happened and I told him that we were marching right over to Mango's to get the damned phone. The Sr -vice president of operations checked the safe (where we were told ALL confiscated materials are put) and lo and behold it was NOT there! I informed mr sr vp of ops that we were going directly to file a theft report and then off to tv and newspapers. I reminded him that he now employed a thief! Needless to say the phone magically appeared within an hour or so. When we went back to retrieve the phone the owner, D Wallack, started to attempt to bully this person again asking him if he realized he was almost arrested last night and how Mangos came to his rescue.....BLAH BLAH BLAH! BOYCOTT MANGOS. So many more interesting and reputable clubs in SoBe. Save yourself the aggravation of any possible shady bs!

I have been to Buddakan several times and I'm a bit obsessed, so I was pretty excited when a friend (with a $125 gift card! SCORE!) suggested Pod. Stephen Starr did a fantastic job with the layout. Sadly, we weren't seated in a pod, but we all agreed that we need to come back so we can get the chance to have dinner in one. Since we were going out drinking later, we all decided that sushi would be a bad idea, so we opted to share a few dishes. We ordered martini's and I chose the Blue Martini first, which tasted like tropical fruit. It was ok, not great. Since Pod serves the food as it is done, our Edamame came out first, which was nice, because we could sit and chat and have drinks while still munching on something. The Crab Spring Rolls, Butter Poached Lobster and Grilled Teryaki Salmon were all decent, but I don't think I'd order them again. Especially the lobster. The bok choy and tofu just didn't seem to work well with the lobster. However, the Asian Braised Short Ribs and Wasabi Crusted Filet were TO. DIE. FOR. Absolutely delicious. Loved the Udon noodles with the short ribs and the wasabi mashed potatoes that came with the Filet were delicious. So moral of the food story: stick to the red meat. While we were eating, the manager convinced my friend and I to try the Orange Martini after finishing our first round. It was ok. It was mixed with carrot juice and ginger...but it was a little heavy on the ginger and whatever spices they used. I think it would be a great drink to pair with some sushi, but it was a little tough to drink. To make it up to us, the manager brought over a free round of the Yellow Martini, which ended up being my favorite. I LOVE passionfruit, and the tartness of the drink was great. A friend ordered the green tea gin and tonic, which was seriously refreshing and delicious. We tried the Fluffernutter Spring Rolls and the sorbet, which was a perfect end to the night. We racked up a pretty serious bill by the end of the night, but luckily we had a nice friend to share her gift card with us. Next time, I don't plan on ordering as much, but dammit, I want to sit in a pod! And make sure you check out the bathrooms... they're definitely interesting...I felt like I was in an airplane. Kinda strange, but fun.
