by Toney Sylney on I give high marks on the place as a music venue. It's intimate, and fun, with excellent bookings and service. The food is a notch down, but I didn't try the pulled pork or fried chicken that people rave about. Meatloaf seemed a bit too salty and uninteresting. The catfish was also on the bland side, and, what? not crystal hot sauce? You've got to be kidding me! John Lee Hooker Jr. played when I went, and he and his band brought down the house. Will go again, but try the ribs, pork, or chicken.
by Kathy M. on After reading the write up in the Statesman several months ago I have been wanting to try this place. I don't see what all the hype is all about, honestly. The last time I was headed out to try this place I changed my mind as I read somewhere that the owner was openly nasty to an employee in front of customers...not cool. We just returned home from eating dinner at the one on 35th street. My opinion was ehh, just OK. Nothing special. We ordered cheeseburgers (wheat bun), fries, onion rings, and a soda. My order wasn't right (mayo instead of mustard) but that was rectified very quickly (and with no attitude) so I have to give them props for that. I've seen everyone hating on the fries, and they are indeed your Ore-Ida variety...just OK but not horrible. The onion rings were tasty and I was pleased with them, however the rings alone won't bring me back. Our order was $14 and some change...not worth it in my opinion. I don't see myself going back unless I am with a group and it's the decided place to go. While this may be an "Austin" place there are waaaay better places to go.
by Darius Nyland on While I'm on the topic of sushi - I figured I should review our "go-to" sushi place. We go here probably every other week and it is always very consistent. Mondays and Tuesdays are dollar sushi night - so that is the only time you'll find us out there. Although I recently found out just why it is dollar sushi nights in the beginning of the week. Sort of a crazy epiphany I had - I'm not blond anymore - but definitely a blond moment! (For those of you like me - that is when the sushi is the oldest and they need to get rid of it before their fresh shipments come in!) That has not stopped us from going since it's such a great deal. Whereas a normal weekend sushi night out sometimes throws us back over $100, we an do EA Thai & Sushi for around $40. We stick to some old faithfuls like simple tuna, salmon, spicy tuna, california roll, bagel rolls...but one of our favorites is the "I hate you" roll. So good! And you can always count on a quick & funny comeback from your server when you order that! The place always seems pretty quiet when we are there. I like the parking lot they have in the back for easy parking. So its not anything AMAZING - but its consistent and good! Check it out!
