Fresh out of the Gogol Bordello concert at the Mayan... such a great venue I had to review it the moment I got home. I don't know anything about the salsa. I know little of any converted theatre. What I do know is that I've seen Gogol at three different venues over the years, and the Mayan takes the cake. Small, but not claustrophobic, I could see the stage just fine from the bar level. The stage front area was large enough to contain two mosh pits with safe zones between. Good acoustics. Strong drinks ($11). Yay, Club Mayan.... I'm a fan.

Positives: Busbys East is great. It is huge, usually happening on fridays and saturdays. It is a place where you can A) dance B) drink C) play bar games(pool, shuffleboard, etc). Not many places give you those options, especially ones with a decently sized/popping dance floor. Usually a fun, early to mid 20s crowd. Cute girls. Whenever I go there, no matter my mood, I always have a great time. This is a place where ridiculous stories occur. It has a college party atmosphere (normal, friendly, obliterated people). Negatives: Sometimes there's a $5-$10 cover. Drinks are in $8-$10 range. Was empty on the non-Friday, non-Saturday nights I've been here. Conclusion: I love Busby's.

Ces chose this place for her birthday a month and a half or so ago... Not much to say except for their bartenders were probably the rudest that my girlfriends and I have ever encountered. Even on a busy ass night at Suite 181 or at a Vegas club... I've never seen a bartender slam your drink to you almost spilling the contents... I watched him do this to every single person he served, and it wasn't even midnight yet... and oh yeah, the drinks barely had any alcohol in it... it also took FOREVER to order drinks... The birthday girl had a guestlist... so can you tell me why some of us paid $20 and some only paid $10... the front door was so disorganized, they had no idea what was going on... even with a LIST in front of them. The tiniest room in the club played hip hop... It seemed like everyone that night wanted to dance to hip hop rather than house, so all 40 of us had to try and fit onto that small little stage... We left the club and walked drukenly to Boss and City Nights begging them to let us in for free just so we can listen to GOOD MUSIC. The beds are cute... excellent to sit on when your heels are killing your feet... we jumped and danced on them and then got kicked off of them by some employees... We were bored, the music sucked and the hip hop room was crowded, the beds "invited" us to jump on them =)
