by Cody W. on I came here to listen to Kronos Quartet perform. They offer dinner and show packages, making a nice complete evening. The restaurant itself is a stylish, modern Japanese restaurant, and the jazz club is quaint and intimate, with nice table and chair setup with bar service. They have excellent cocktails. The sidecar was the best I've had. All the drinks have jazz-inspired names, such as Miles Ahead (also good) and Stormy Weather. The sake selection is impressive, and they even have sake flights available so you can taste a nice selection. The tempura was light, not greasy, and the best I've had in the States. It's usually too heavy over here. The lobster blossom tempura was incredible. And the star of the night was the Japonese sushi roll, combining maguro and hamachi with cilantro, jalapeno, chili oil, and a subtle lime squeeze.
by Alexa g. on So I'm not crazy about Sutra, by the time you walk in pay cover for 2 people, and buy 2 drinks you have already been set back $40. That means $10 for a *weak* vodka and tonic, compared to paying that much for a handcrafted cocktail with top shelf ingredients ( Come to think about it I don't think top Flr's are that much). I had saw online that you could get in for free by a certain time, but at the door there was a bit of a problem when the door woman confronted me, questioning where I'd seen that ad. And when I informed her she hastily yelled back to someone else to make sure that's taken down ASAP. And basically she would do us a favor by allowing us to bypass the cover charge for that night. That kind of turned me off right there. The space it's self is nice, and the crowd is a young diverse bunch. I'd be willing to give it another chance at a later date-if I didn't have to pay cover.
