This place has a serious split personality disorder.  And I'm okay with that.  If you're going to dine, it's all serious business to the left.  But, if you just want to hang in the bar for a few drinks, it's all party to the right.  Kinda like a sideways mullet.  But like I said, I'm okay with that. I've come here a few times for lunch and dinner and it's always pretty mellow and psuedo-conservative.  If you're dining, that never really changes regardless of the time of day.  On the other side, though, come Happy Hour and it's like the quitting time whistle blows and just like that, the waitress uniforms become almost non-existent, the bartenders start throwing stuff at you and the party has officially started.  But again, only on the bar side. The food is actually pretty good.  I'm a big fan of the steak salad and the salmon chips.  The BBQ chips aren't bad, either.  The service is kind of hit-or-miss, but I don't really blame the waitresses when they have to wear the shoes that they do. The patio is nice for people watching and there's live music at some point.  The bar does get pretty crowded but the bartenders put on a bit of a show so that keeps the crowd pretty lively.  It's been mentioned but it bears repeating, it can get pretty loud, so no intimate conversations for you!  I think someone else wrote that it's a perfect place for out-of-town business people staying in the area and I'd like to co-sign that notion.  As for locals...sure.  Why not?

I got my picture taken. Someone better pay me! What the hell did they do to Little Tokio? I loved this place before it became The Ecco. I use to be here faithfully every Wednesday night for a little thing my friend use to do called "Therapy". That was about 4yrs ago. They place was a total mess back then. The sound system was a mess, the dance floor was tiny, and the floor was not leveled. It was great. This place isn't ecco friendly. I don't understand it. Besides the florescent energy saving lights - why is this place ecco friendly? Who the hell is that DJ? What am I listening to? Why do people yell during the buildup to the next track? Why is the build up taking so long? I like to watch people dance. Its a plus if they are a great dancer. If not - its still fun to watch. Some people are so cute with their non rhythmic dance moves - it makes me laugh. Its so cute. This club is in the heart of Hollywood. I hate it. The vibe, the music, and the people. It just doesn't do it for me. It isn't my scene. I like my music deep with some soul. I ordered 5 drinks: one for her, one for him, and three for me. Pinche expensive drinks but it was expected because we're in stank hollyhood at some trendy little club. The outside area is cute. Its my favorite thing about this place. Its a nice little set up they got 'goin on. They have plants, tables, and fine ass men who annoy the shit out me but are soft on the eyes. I like eye fucking them until a tear rolls down my check. They ask me if I'm cryinig...I tell me no, my heart is just crying for me.

The question between South Philly always comes down to Geno's and Pat's.  It's like Giordano's versus Lou Malnati's for Chicago-style pizza -- both might be great, but you have to pick a favorite. For me, I'm going with Geno's because they focus more on the meat rather than the Cheese Whiz.  I'm also going to say the use of the whiz for philly cheese steaks has got to be the most overrated culinary concept of all time (dodges lightning bolt). I think the attitude at Geno's and Pat's further accentuates life in South Philly.  It's not only about the sandwiches, but there is also a distinct Philly flair to the service which makes this place great. And now time for my little moment on the soapbox.  If a restaurant requests their patrons to speak English to them, that is their right.  After all, freedom of speech includes the right to state beliefs or ideas that might be construed as offensive (by the way, English is not my first language).  So, basically, if you are going to interpet a sign in the most offensive manner to you, then that's your business (and you probably won't like this place).  However, my review is based on the actual sandwich and it's stellar.
