I grew up in Chula Vista, CA about 10 minutes away from the Mexican border so I know what a good taco tastes like. I'm always on the hunt for authentic, delicious Mexican food in the city and Nick's Crispy Tacos is NOT it. Walking in I was pretty horrified by the obvious fact that the location used to be a dance club. It's got red velvet drapes, mirrors covering the walls, and cheesy chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. It did not give off the vibe that it was going to be pricey, instead it gave off the vibe that it was tacky. But whatevers, right? Let's let the food speak for itself. My fiancé and I ordered the crispy pescado, carnitas, and carne asada tacos. The crispy fish taco was too greasy that you couldn't really taste the fish. The guacamole they have doesn't taste fresh nor like real guacamole. Their carnitas had a lot of fat attached to the meat and also tasted too greasy. Lastly, the carne asada, which I'm always very picky of because I've had the best home cooked carne asada all my life, was tasteless. Where's the seasonings? The limón? The flavor? I'd heard so many people rave about Nick's Crispy Tacos, and it was definitely the biggest let down. It was simply not good. Why return when you've got the Mission district to go to for good Mexican food (which can also be hit or miss though). Ok, so I hated Nick's and you want to know where to go for a hell of a taco? There is a place. It's a small hole in the wall on 24th street in the Mission that you'll never catch your average Joe walking into. I don't even want to mention the name because this place is such a gem and authentic as can be that if you're loving and grubbing on Nick's Tacos then you kind of don't deserve to know about my secret gem. If you're so inclined to find out, just cruise 24th street and look for a taquero cooking up a storm inside a small room that can fit about 5 people :) Good luck!

This restaurant is quite a find!  The drinks here are AMAZING (especially the ginger-infused drinks) and the food is delicious. Appetizer -- My group tried the plantains and the hummus.  Both were delicious.  I especially enjoyed how the plantains were a good size (not too big, not too small) and they were slightly crisp at the edges. Entree -- I tried the shrimp skewers with vegetable stew.  Dish also includes rice and a salad.  I absolutely loved the stew -- great mix of vegetables, not heavy or salty at all (a common issue with some stews).  The salad house vinaigrette dressing was also very unique -- fruity with a bit of a tang.  My only complaint is that the shrimp were a bit on the small side. Service -- A little slow, but it's no big deal.  They're a small restaurant, so I cut them some slack on that. However, the prices here are excellent, and it's a great value.  I would definitely come again!
