The crispy fish taco (pescado) is so yummy! If I lived close to Nick's, I'd swing by weekly just for a taco fix. I also had the shrimp taco (camarones). Also good but not as good as the pescado. I recommend ordering the tacos "Nick's Way", which includes guac and cheese for an extra 95 cents. My two tacos and iced tea was $11. A great cheap eatz. The ambiance is dated nightclub - red velvet booths, chandeliers, cheesy bar - but totally mellow and low hassle. Very cool place. Service was friendly. I asked for change for my meter and got it with a smile instead of a snarl. Thumbs up.

I love the area (not because it's gay) because it's got Crossroads, Aardvarks, and great restaurants all around. It's not a bad idea to show up early before a show so you can spend the afternoon around before getting in line. I first went for a Bell x1 show that the girl on the phone told me was sold out. It kind of irked me that no one would give me a definite answer about my chances of getting in, especially since I traveled all the way from the south bay. Turned out be pretty easy (didn't hurt that I was fifth in line) to get in, and I've heard that buying ahead of time really isn't necessary from friends. I was annoyed that they weren't serving Guinness at the bar (Bell x1 = irish), but impressed by their menu and general selection anyways. The food looked good, but I didn't have enough cash for unnecessary dinner and a cab home. I'm really impressed with the booking by this venue. Bell x1 usually plays bigger places, and I was so happy to see them in an intimate venue. The opening act (the Submarines) were great too, and I have since become a fan. I haven't had a chance to go back yet, but I always see great names, and hope to be back soon.

Unique venue, and a HUGE space. If you're not entirely fucked up before you get here, I'm not sure how much you'll enjoy it---there's just so much going on, between the mass amounts of drunken bodies grinding up on one another, the live music and the weird layout---its really enough to make you kinda antsy unless you're somewhat buzzed. But worth checking out if you get the chance, and can afford the steep drink prices...
