The food here is a hit or miss.  Don't get the cheap sushi because it's overpriced and bland. Dragon roll - 4 stars.  very good and fresh sushi.  $12.95 Volcano roll - 4 stars.  good.  a little spicy.  I wish the mango slices were thicker, juicier, and sweeter.  $12.95 Calamari with marinara - 4 stars.  good. fried. not bad. $7 Crunchee roll - 3.5 stars.  $12.95 at dinner, $10 at lunch (comes with miso soup and ginger salad at lunch only) Yasai roll - 1 star.  Gross. Spicy yellowtail roll - 2.5 stars.  Mediocre. I really enjoy the pork tenderloin au jus and mashed potatoes here.  This was the chef's special one day, and the pork tenderloin was amazing - succulent, tender, and drizzled with a savoury sauce and mushrooms.  The mashed potatoes were great - buttery and not too fluffy.  4.5 stars. The chef's special with the salmon cakes, spinach, and mashed potatoes is also excellent.  4 stars If you order the chef's special at lunch, I recommend substituting the house salad with the miso salad.  The house salad is quite bland, and it resembles a pre-packaged lettuce salad from the grocery store.  The miso salad is more unique and flavorful, with a tangy dressing and greater variety of fresh vegetables.

Like other Meatpacking venues, the outside of Buddha Bar is unassuming and you may miss it if you don't pay attention. But the cavernous restaurant is quite an impressive restaurant with dim lighting and beautiful Asian themed decor. A bit reminiscent of Tao but a bit more elegant, I'd say. I wanted to take my cousin who was visiting to a "New York City" restaurant and bar and this place totally delivers. The service was attentive and drinks strong. But wow, we didn't pay attention to what we were ordering or how much it cost and we ended up paying over $200 for drinks alone, for two people! (I think i paid for it with a hang over this morning, too... And we closed the place down! On a Tuesday night!) Great people watching and comfy chairs, I'd go back for sure!
