by cortney n. on We ate a bunch of small plates and they all seemed to be very well executed, especially the coffee crusted pork loin (as noted by many Rateclubers!). I realt enjoyed the scallops, too. They were super-fresh and the potato bid purée that accompanied the dish was excellent! I wasn't too fond of the dessert menu, it could be stronger, like the rest of the menu. I opted out of dessert and my partner chose the honey and lavendar panna cotta. It was a nice consistency but lacked any honey or lavendar flavor. Will definitely come back after having a leisure dinner of 3 hours and never feeling rushed.
by Alex P. on The new "Bungalow 8". Latest NYC nightlife attraction, "Avenue" is a hot new club brought to you by the owners of "Marquee" and "Tao". Right around the corner from "One OAK", the entrance to Avenue is deceivingly humble. Don't let that fool you though... if anything, the aspiring crowd waiting at the door should confirm you're in for a surprise. I particularly liked the two-floor, high ceiling concept: the loungey, more exclusivist top floor allows for a casual conversation and a general view of the dance floor on the lower level. Decorated with opulence, "Avenue" is small enough that it doesn't feel empty, yet sufficiently spacious that you don't have to get too cozy with other patrons. Rightfully posh, expect a well-dressed crowd, averaging in the early 30's. Music: latest and greatest, combined with unexpected occasional twists of early 90's (the Sat night I went there, at least.) Budget: $21 glass of wine. Yes, that's a lot. But for once, it may be worth it UPDATE 08/07/09: Call ahead of time to add your name to the guest list. Otherwise, unless you know the manager, chances are they will turn you down even absent the requisite waiting line. I still like the place, but the self-induced exclusivity is getting a bit ridiculous.
by Fritz Spaziano on I have yet to order food here but heard it was great. 2 stars for the wallpaper, 1 star for the fantastic owner who is always working, 1 star for the ethiopian beer I tried for the first time ever. So crisp....dark....tasty. Great vibe.
