And the fact that it's so packed seems to give them the impression that they can ever-so-slightly brush against your backside while passing by. That's the thing about people who frequent this club- not able to approach like gentlemen from the front so they just start grinding against you from behind and then call it "dancing," or just straight up staring til their eyes pop out(think history teacher from Daria cartoon). This is typical of Asian club scenes. It's really a shame as I actually dig the dance floor & live drummer; it reminded me of Tonic club in Montreal. We didn't have a problem getting in because a friend's friend had reserved table service. The better looking guys are probably the waiters(you'll spot them decked out in black tees), but that's not really saying much. Not the place to mingle as I don't find the crowd particularly friendly, and I prefer a smorgasbord of cultures at clubs/lounges.

I came on a Wednesday night for the Write From Wrong series, which if I remember correctly featured work written by poets about their time in prison or while in prison. Some of it was your standard cosinal-volumed overly dramatic slam fare, but some of it was truly moving and right up there with the best spoken word I've seen. The crowd, though small for the event, was totally engaged. Probably the best atmosphere for poetry I've found outside of the Green Mill. I came back later in the week with hopes of reading at an open mic. For that, the place was packed. I got away with two pieces, one a success, the other a mild flop, but it was a great experience. Again, the audience couldn't have been better to read in front of, and everyone from the curious audience member to the staff treated me like family. If you have any interest in poetry or spoken word, or are just looking for a different kind of place to take a date, this has got to be on your list.

I had the scallops with risotto (risotto not so great, but the blood orange and scallops were awesome) for an appetizer and the halibut as a main course. The halibut was seasoned almost to perfection with the right amount of salt, spices, etc. My friends ordered the steak frites and the short ribs which they all loved as well. The broccoli rabe was way too spicy and tasted really weird/dry. The service was lacking a bit, but I loved the decor. Downstairs also has a hidden club called D'Or with hip-hop/pop music which I adore! Great for a romantic date or just hanging out with friends.
